The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding impressed at Exeter under a penalty and looks potentially very smart. Sue Smith has lifted plenty of big prizes here over the years and it is good to see her with a hurdler of some potential in Midnight Shadow, who could be a danger. Delire D'estruval can surely improve on his debut for this stable, while Whatmore is also short-list material. Gortoe Joe needs to improve but you wouldn't want to strike him off the list, while Waterlord should of course be checked out in the market after such a long time off, as he had plenty of potential when last seen.
