Goes well on heavy ground and stays well enough. Out of form recently in slightly better company than this, but now back on her last winning mark and with tongue strap applied, it would not surprise to see her return to better form.

Goes well here and was not beaten far over hurdles from 5lb higher at the venue last December. Has struggled since, however, including on her return to chasing last time and goes into this with a few questions to answer.

Had slid in the handicap before recording his first win under rules last time out over C&D (soft) from a mark of 90. Had 5L to spare there and carries a 7lb penalty for that success, but in a weak contest he has claims in his bid to follow-up.

Both career wins have come at Huntingdon, the one in a chase being when 6lb higher early in 2016. Seems okay on heavy ground, though has better form on soft and another with a fair bit to prove on the evidence of his reappearance run.

Stays 3m on heavy and goes well at this venue. 4lb higher today than when winning a similarly moderate contest at Towcester in February, but well held in all starts since, including on reappearance from this mark. Looks best watched this time.

Has made the frame in three of his four chase starts, including when beaten just over 6L from 4lb higher at Bangor last month. Worth another try over this far after being pulled up over 3m at Hexham last time and not ruled out.

Sole chase win was over this trip on heavy ground at Uttoxeter last year, though he has gone 13 races since then and only really once threatened a repeat. Beaten 46L over C&D from 1lb higher last time and others preferred.

Forecasts

Steel Native (5/4), Try It Sometime (4/1), Atlantic King (6/1), Misty Mai (7/1), Magical Man (8/1), Black Narcissus (12/1), Alberto's Dream (16/1)

Verdict

Very moderate fayre here and caution is advised, with the suggestion being ATLANTIC KING. Nigel Hawke's four-year-old does has a little to prove after failing to complete when stepped up to this trip last time, but he previously went well from a higher mark than today and he could do better this time. Black Narcissus is a potential threat from her current mark, but it won't be easy shouldering 12st successfully in this ground. Steel Native is another with obvious claims after a win last time, though consistency has not been his strong suit. Alberto's Dream is not completely ruled out in first-time headgear, though based purely on his own reappearance he is not one to be lumping on.
  1. Atlantic King
  2. Steel Native
  3. Black Narcissus
