Ballinrobe bumper winner (May 2016) for Liz Doyle. Probably slightly better than the bare result on his latest start over hurdles (2m, Hexham good to soft), but back over fences for just the second time and looks vulnerable off top-weight.
Has struggled for form since winning at Southwell (2m good) in June (made all). Whilst some of the bare ingredients for success (track and trip) present themselves today, he comes with risks attached and stamina to prove.
Falling slowly into the disappointing category, having appeared an unexposed chaser of note just a few months back. His fencing needs addressed, but with past experience at this track, hopefully quicker ground will show him in a more positive light.
A 15 race career maiden (0 from 6 over fences under rules). However, his mark is plunging, and with some fair hurdles form on his CV (for Stuart Edmunds), he shouldn't be totally ignored with his trainer saddling a double on Wednesday.
Finally building a consistent profile over fences, and appears to have got his fencing technique in order. Stayed on strongly to score by 9L at Kelso earlier in the month (2m1f good), and has a most alluring appeal off a 10lb higher mark.
Hit the deck early at Newcastle on Friday, and presumably none the worse given he's turned out quickly. Has October Hexham form with Oak Vintage; which theoretically should be reversed, but Ann Hamilton's runner has progressed since.
Managed to end a long losing run under a positive ride from 4lb out of the weights at Hexham in September (2m good to soft). That form has merit (beat Exitas), but he's lacked consistency since, and didn't relish Musselburgh latest.
Hasn't shown all that much ability in 11 career starts. Made the frame over 2m4f at Musselburgh (good) earlier this month, but was beaten 17L by the cosy winner Mullaghmurphy Blue. Easily ignored.
Forecasts
Oak Vintage (5/4), Minella Suite (6/1), Middlebrow (13/2), Roman Numeral (7/1), King Golan (15/2), Christmas Twenty (10/1), My Idea (22/1), Stormbay Bomber (50/1)
OAK VINTAGE has the look and feel of a much improved handicap chaser. He has been raised 10lb for his decisive Kelso success (2m1f) earlier this month, and strictly on weights and measures should struggle to confirm his previous Hexham form with Roman Numeral. However, Ann Hamilton excels with her chasers, and he is very much the type to run up a sequence now that he has become a much more proficient fencer. Minella Suite is probably worthy of one last chance now that he encounters quicker ground, and he looks the most logical option for the forecast, but patience wise, he's rather living on borrowed time.
- Oak Vintage
- Minella Suite
- Christmas Twenty
