Has largely run to a consistent level of form in the past year over trips from 2m5½f-3m1½f, though has usually found at least one too good. Once again has claims from 1lb lower than last time, though at the same time he is clearly vulnerable.
Has so far shown his best form on good or good to soft ground and at up to 3m, so has a little to prove in terms of conditions/trip here. 2lb drop won't do any harm and blinkers may also help, so enters calculations in this field.
Dual point-to-point winner, though she has been beaten out of sight in several races over both hurdles and fences. Dropped 8lb going into this after being pulled up at Uttoxeter last time and others readily preferred.
0-3 over fences, but has hinted that there is a small race in him and put up one of his better efforts when a 12L runner-up at Uttoxeter (2m6½f, good to soft) last month. Back on the same mark today, he needs to find a bit more but is not ruled out.
Moderate stayer whose sole success was in a Huntingdon hurdle (3m1f, good to soft) this time last year. Placed five times from eight chases and a 4lb drop gives him his best chance for some time of breaking his duck over fences.
Made the frame for the first time under rules when a 16L third in a Southwell novices' handicap chase (3m, good) last time out. Dropped 2lb going into this, but his form still looks some way short of what will be needed to win even this modest race.
Forecasts
Dontminddboys (2/1), Gorran Haven (7/2), Tommy The Rascal (7/2), Backoftherock (9/2), Goosen Maverick (6/1), Brown Revel (50/1)
Dontminddboys would not be winning out of turn if he proves good enough to take this race, but there are enough doubts about him to take him on again and the suggestion in receipt of over a stone from him is TOMMY THE RASCAL. Admittedly, he too has had several chances, but a drop to this mark might just do the trick. Gorran Haven has to be considered and a win in first-time headgear would not surprise, while Backoftherock is not ruled out.
- Tommy The Rascal
- Gorran Haven
