Has won here over 2m3½f and on all types of ground but is not easy to catch right. Dropped to a more attractive mark before his latest 5½L fourth at Carlisle over shorter, so another 1lb drop and longer trip can see him in the mix.
0-8 over fences, though in the frame in seven of those races and has prove expensive to follow. Went close from this mark at Carlisle in May, trip and ground are no problem but clearly carries risks for those wanting to back the winner.
Scored here over 2m3½f in a handicap hurdle (good) in March. Stuck on well after being outpaced on his recent chase reappearance at Kelso (2m7½f, good) and should not be too far away if first-time visor proves positive.
Ended a lengthy losing run when scoring at Market Rasen (3m, good) in August from 3lb lower. Way below that form in both starts since, however, and has not looked up to this slight rise in grade.
Sole win was in a Sedgefield novices' hurdle (2m3f, soft) in 2015. Handicapper then in the ascendancy, but even when he relented the gelding's form did not fully recover. Well beaten on return from lengthy break last time but on very handy mark now.
Point-to-point and maiden hunter chase winner when trained in Ireland and doesn't have many rules races on the clock given his age. Beaten 17L from this mark when last seen in September so needs improvement on stable debut.
Saw plenty of action when joining this yard with seven starts in two months in the spring of last year winning at Cartmel (3m1½f, good) from 3lb higher in the last of that spell. Entitled to need his return run after long break. Market check.
Won a Hexham novices' handicap chase (2m4f, good) from 2lb higher in May 2016. Nowhere near that form in just two recent runs since then, so looks to have plenty to prove at the moment, not least stamina over this trip.
14-race maiden under rules and has often looked like he might pick up a race like this, though never delivered. Conditions and trip both suit, but beaten several times from this mark and looks to have frame claims at best.
7lb higher going into this than when scoring at Catterick (3m1f, good to soft) in January, but has failed to complete in four starts since. Off the track since unseating in April and couldn't rule him out with a clear round, but has a bit to prove.
0-21 so far and although he was competitive from this mark in the spring in lesser company, he was well beaten from it last time when there ought not to have been any fitness issues. Ground ideally needs to be softer and others preferred.
Stays 3m2½f and is at his best on softer ground than forecast for today. Scored over 2m4f (good) at Hexham in June from 6lb lower and ran well enough at Kelso last time, but a 2lb nudge up for that makes this tougher.
Has made the frame four times from 16 attempts, though remains a maiden. Best effort was when runner-up at Cartmel (3m1½f, good) in July 2016 from 4lb higher. Well beaten on his only run since (last month) and a bit to prove despite handy mark.
Dual point-to-point winner but 0-18 under rules and has slid 13lb in the ratings after three runs for this trainer. May still be a race in him and a market check is suggested in case there is any confidence in that happening today.
Multiple point-to-point winner but unable to win a race under rules. Has been found wanting at this level in the past and his third in a class 5 at Hexham last time was nothing to write home about, so hard to fancy from 3lb 'wrong'.
Won a Market Rasen chase (3m, good) for Graeme McPherson in July last year from 16lb higher, but thrashed in all completed starts since leaving that yard soon after and hard to make a case for him on recent evidence from 8lb out of the handicap.
Forecasts
Red Danaher (7/2), Golden Investment (9/2), Doktor Glaz (7/1), Sharney Sike (8/1), Cant Pay Wont Pay (10/1), Kalastar (11/1), Attention Please (14/1), Whatsthestoryman (14/1), Under The Red Sky (16/1), Inchcolm (20/1), Withoutdefavourite (22/1), Notonebuttwo (22/1), Rough Justice (25/1), Major Ridge (33/1), Feast Of Fire (40/1), Trillerin Minella (66/1)
A moderate contest on paper and caution is advised, withRED DANAHER the suggestion. Sue Smith has long sent out winners at this venue and her 10-year-old could come on plenty for his recent reappearance after an absence, while he has now dropped to a handy mark. Sharney Sike, Golden Investment and the visored Doktor Glaz all have points of appeal, while Notonebuttwo has an each-way squeak and any money for Withoutdefavourite would be an eye-opener.
- Red Danaher
