Former Irish point-to-pointer who showed resilience to down Hexham bumper winner Buy Mistake on his stable debut at Perth in September (2m good to soft). Penalised, but this stiffer track will suit and the stable are in excellent shape.
Well held in three starts in Irish point-to-points, but this half-brother to a couple of winners joined new connections for £15,000 in May. Likely to find plenty stronger today, and better over further.

Half-brother to the 1m-1m3f Flat winner Hurlingham, this Sakhee's Secret gelding will almost certainly draw benefit from last month's debut at Sedgefield (fifth). However, substantial improvement is required in the first time tongue tie.

6/4
Cost £25,000 in June after a 12L 3m Tralee (point-to-point) success in May. Runner up, beaten 1L on his stable debut at Fakenham earlier this month, and this totally different track looks sure to be a much more suitable match.

Unraced gelding by Dutch Art out of a Distinctly North mare (Discoed). Stable not known for bumper winners, so readily dismissed.
7

7/1
€20,000 three-year-old second foal by Daylami out of the Flat and hurdles (2m3f to 2m4f) winning mare Titian Flame. Trainer often introduces his bumper/novice hurdlers at Newcastle, and the latest 'Glinger' to represent his enthusiastic owner.

Horse silk
200/1
Unraced third living foal by Revoque out of the 7f to 1m4f maiden Pistol Dawn. Cost a paltry £800, and makes his debut wearing a tongue tie.

Sultans Pride214
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: Ross Chapman(5)| T: G Boanas| BF
13/2
Eighth foal by Sulamani out of Penny's Pride, and a brother to the useful bumper and novice hurdle winner Crowning Jewel. Beaten 10L by the talented Niceandeasy on debut over C&D in March, but much more modest next time at Market Rasen.

Sweet As Candy202
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: C O'Farrell| T: R Dobbin
13/2
An easy 6L winner of a 3m maiden at Lisronagh in April for Denis Paul Murphy, this five-year-old was sold the following month for £42,000. In safe hands, and of definite interest on rules/bumper debut for a stable in form.

Horse silk
100/1
Once raced Cloudings grey who cost €14,000 as a three-year-old, and whose dam (Our Witness) is an unraced half-sister to the winning staying chaser The Bushkeeper. Course experience, but this looks a deep bumper.

Horse silk
40/1
Unraced mare by Dylan Thomas out of a Sadler's Well mare (Russian Roubles). Probably one for the future, but this locally based operation know the time of day, and aren't unknown to spring a surprise or two in bumpers.

Forecasts

Ballinslea Bridge (6/4), Chanceanotherfive (3/1), Sultans Pride (13/2), Sweet As Candy (13/2), Glinger Flame (7/1), Bambys Boy (8/1), That's Life (10/1), Absolutely Dylan (12/1), Russiantom (40/1), Animated Hero (66/1), The Hard Shoulder (100/1), Dutch Coed (100/1), Rock On Roy (200/1)

Verdict

A smashing bumper to conclude the Newcastle action, and a race which promises to churn out plenty of future winners. Chanceanotherfive carries a penalty for his Perth success, but with his trainer in form, this former Irish pointer is respected at a more suitable galloping track. Ditto Ballinslea Bridge who appeared to find Fakenham way too sharp on debut for Olly Murphy. Nicky Richards saddles a couple of intriguing looking newcomers (in well known silks), and whilst the market will be informative, perhaps That's Life makes more initial appeal than Glinger Flame, whilst Sultans Pride was understandably no match for the still unbeaten Niceandeasy over C&D in March. However, in an open contest which appeals more as a future source of winners than a betting medium, we'll take aim with SWEET AS CANDY. Rose Dobbin has some really useful horses in her Alnwick stables for this winter, and this £42,000 purchase should have a decent future given the manner of his striking 6L 3m maiden point-to-point success at Lisronagh in April.
  1. Sweet As Candy
  2. That's Life
  3. Chanceanotherfive
