Well held in two handicaps after three ordinary efforts in maidens. Handicap mark probably needs to drop a little more for her to be competitive

Won a 6f handicap at Carlisle in the summer and is generally better on turf than on the AW, which is reflected in the respective handicap marks on the two surfaces. Hopes pinned on first-time cheekpieces.

In decent form on the AW at the turn of the year and was returning from a break when sixth of 11 at Southwell last time. Has dropped to a lenient handicap mark and has prospects.

By no means disgraced in recent starts on turf. Only previous run on the AW saw him well held at Southwell, but this surface is entirely different and he has claims if adapting to it.

Well backed, but no match for the easy winner in a 6f maiden at this track last week. Should be in the shake-up if able to build on that on this return to 7f.

Last two runs have been at this track in a slightly higher grade, but he was well held in both. Has dropped to a career-low mark on the AW.

Only limited promise when trained by Mark Johnston last year and returned from almost a year off to finish fifth of 10 in a Leicester seller. Should come on for that run and mark has dropped 3lb. Hood she wore that day is dispensed with.

First run for this stable saw her finish seventh of 14 at Kempton. Down 5lb so not without hope in first-time cheekpieces.

Best effort in three maidens saw her finish fourth of nine at Kempton last time. Has been found a weak contest for handicap debut and is worth consideration.

Won a handicap over this trip at Wolverhampton in June, but has been held in a couple of starts since. Down 1lb since last time and ran respectably on last visit to this track.

First visit to an AW track saw him finish second over C&D to a rival who has run well again since. Up 1lb, but that latest effort gives him every chance.

Still looking for his first win after 22 starts, three of them on the AW. Previous visits to this track have not been productive.

Only lightly raced and not a bad effort when fourth of 13 on the Southwell Fibresand last time. This is a different challenge, but he is well worth considering off his lowest mark so far.

Diamond Avalanche27
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: J Garritty| T: Kristin Stubbs| OR:  46

Was having his first run for this stable when fourth of seven in a 1m maiden at this track last month.Pulled hard that day and this shorter trip might be more suitable. One to consider.

Forecasts

Stardrifter (5/2), Diamond Avalanche (5/1), Zebelini (15/2), Dream Revival (8/1), Prisom (9/1), Ypres (10/1), Reason To Believe (11/1), Pitch High (12/1), Jennies Gem (12/1), Arizona Sunrise (16/1), Echoism (16/1), Linda Doris (25/1), Dazeekha (28/1), Mighty Bond (33/1)

Verdict

Not many of these leap off the page, but STARDRIFTER ran well on his first start on the AW over C&D and will know more this time. He looks feasibly handicapped and can get the better of Dream Revival, Jennies Gem and Diamond Avalanche, who have each shown recent signs of encouragement. In an open, if ordinary contest, cases can also be made for Prisom, Pitch High, Echoism, Reason To Believe, Little Doris and Zebelini.
  1. Stardrifter
  2. Diamond Avalanche
  3. Jennies Gem
