Infrequent winner but put it all together when winning over this C&D (in heavy ground) in March. In typical fashion, not so good since but will stip fitter for recent effort at Carlisle and with no ground worries, chance if coming back to best.

Stays and stays and usually contests better grade races than this. Not seen out since April but goes well fresh and loves heavy ground. Yard going well too, and are a rare visitor this far north. Plenty points to a big run.

A regular at Ayr now he's changed yards, and did win here at the first time of asking for current connections in February (now a pound lower than that win). The issue is whether 3m in heavy ground is really what's required, and yard very quiet.

Looked useful when pulling right away to win a novice hurdle at Carlisle last season, highly tried in two starts after that but in truth, a little disappointing on comeback run at Fakenham last month. Trip still an unknown and others preferred.

Had a good time of it last year and won three of his last five starts, including two here (in heavy ground) but those wins were at shorter and the step up to 3m asks a new question. Chance if he gets it, but there will be no hiding place here.

Very nicely handicapped on the best of his form for Charlie Longsden and new yard can turn these soured sorts around, but you've got to go back to 2014 for his last win and chances are he'll need this after 17 months away.

Forecasts

Knockanrawley (15/8), Catamaran Du Seuil (2/1), Gold Opera (7/1), No No Mac (7/1), Silver Tassie (8/1), Grandads Horse (14/1)

Verdict

This has the potential to turn into a last-man-standing contest, with five of the six wanting to either lead or push the pace, and that last mile will seem like double to a few of these. KNOCKANRAWLEY won't mind a slugfest at all, given he stays much further than this and won't mind the ground either. He's taken to outbattle Catamaran Du Seuil, who could be reaching for the oxygen tanks late on, and Silver Tassie, the one hold-up horse in the race, who can come through for the bronze.
  1. Knockanrawley
  2. Catamaran Du Seuil
  3. Silver Tassie
