Only a novice hurdle at Sedgefield on his CV so far, but yet to finish out of the money in seven starts over timber. Form of Sandown Grade 3 run in March worked out and big player on return.
Mixed back in maiden/novice hurdles last term, winning at Uttoxeter in February (2m7½f, heavy) in decent style on best of four attempts. Handicap debut on return to action and can get involved.
Winner over C&D in June off a mark off 117, has scope to go well off this higher mark based on old form but not the most reliable lately. Returns from 128-day break and may need the run.
Winner over this sort of trip over fences at Wetherby in January amid some decent form last term. Recent return at Wincanton did little for confidence and may be best watched now reverting to hurdles.
A bit of moody character seemingly, though some confidence can be taken from the fact both wins over hurdles have come at this track and generally tends to go well here. Stamina no issue and not dismissed.
Made early gains after joining this yard with two hurdles wins in this month last year, including over 2m4f here. Decent effort at Worcester in September but pulled up having been backed at Aintree (3m½f, good to soft) a fortnight ago.
Three quick wins over hurdles in early 2014 helped him reach a peak rating of 143, that all seems in the distant past now. Struggled over hurdles in February then pulled up over fences. Easier to look elsewhere on return from 266 days off.
Midlands National winner in 2016, pulled up more often than not in seven runs since. First start since April and this outing over hurdles a likely building block towards more realistic chasing aims.
Two wins from final four starts last season, both over this sort of trip. Has to deal with a 7lb hike on return to action but the mare could have more to offer still and trainer enjoyed a double at Fontwell on Friday.
Forecasts
Prime Venture (8/11), Verygoodverygood (7/1), Act Now (8/1), Lovenormoney (8/1), Awaywiththegreys (10/1), Driftwood Haze (14/1), Firebird Flyer (16/1), Fingerontheswitch (20/1), Kayf Moss (25/1)
The majority of these are returning from breaks, so market confidence will be worth looking out for. That said, PRIME VENTURE showed some decent form last season despite failing to add to his novice hurdle at Sedgefield. His last two runs saw him finish second behind smart opponents and he's fancied to make a winning return, as he did last season. The mare Act Now excelled at this sort of trip late last season and is respected despite returning off an increased mark while Driftwood Haze has run his best races here and cannot be discounted as such. Verygoodverygood was backed last time at Aintree, before run no sort of race. He could be capable of much better.
