Point/hurdles winner, scored in 3m conditionals handicap chase at Bangor in January on soft ground in third start over fences. Efforts either side of that win leave much to be desired and watching brief looks best on first start for 231 days.

Eight-year-old was going along nicely early in the year, culminating in chase win at Chepstow in March off mark of 102 over this sort of trip. Pulled up both runs since either side of a break, doing little for confidence in the process.

Two wins from six starts last season over fences. Needed the reappearance run last term and does have some questions to answer over this longer trip. On balance may be one to watch this afternoon.

Maiden chase winner in Ireland in 2016, though not the most consistent in short career there. Winning start for this handler at Newton Abbot (2m5f, good to soft) in August but poor in both runs since. First-time cheekpieces added now.

Has won off higher mark over fences in the past and scored over hurdles at Newton Abbot in September. Not as good more recently at Hexham, but retains appeal off current rating changing codes.

Made encouraging start over fences in novice event at Newton Abbot in March (2m6½f, soft) but tailed off next time behind Lac Sacre at Chepstow. Retains potential to do better and yard are in fine vein of form.

Lost his way completing since winning 3m novice handicap chase at Warwick in in February on soft ground. Never going in return at Chepstow last month, jumping poorly and being pulled up, risky proposition for now.

Unplaced in six starts over hurdles and similar tale in two runs over the larger obstacles lately, beaten 16L in fourth of six at Uttoxeter (2m6½f, good) nine days ago, seemingly lacking any sort of gear change.

Has plenty experience and made it 18th time lucky at Bangor last month (2m4½f, good to soft) last month. Backed out of things quickly here over similar trip next time, up in distance now.

Maiden hurdler of limited ability, has failed to complete both starts over fences so far. Makes debut for new trainer and sports a first-time hood. Must improve dramatically.

Forecasts

Fair To Middling (4/1), Pink Gin (9/2), Hedgeinator (9/2), Gamain (5/1), Jonagold (5/1), Bassarabad (7/1), Johns Luck (8/1), Thegirlfrommilan (9/1), Drumviredy (10/1), Steel Native (12/1), Lac Sacre (25/1)

Verdict

PINK GIN scored well in novice company at Newton Abbot in March and is forgiven a tame effort on final start last season in a race won by Lac Sacre. He has potential in this sphere and, given the form of Nigel Twiston-Davies' string lately, it won't come as any surprise to see him bounce back on his reappearance. Gamain should be capable off this rating switched back to fences and is respected despite fading last time over timber at Hexham. Johns Luck has stamina issues to address on reappearance and may need the run while Fair To Middling must rebuild confidence after two mishaps in September. On best form, Drumviredy and Lac Sacre are perfectly entitled to go well, ensuring market checks are called for.
