Front-runner who is equally adept over hurdles or fences with six wins in each code and, though he can be a bit all-or-nothing, he looked better than ever when winning over timber at Galway (2m, soft) recently. Raised 6lb.
Flat and Bumper winner who made it but the last of his four hurdle wins came off a 7lb lower mark at Leopardstown in February. That said, he reappears here in good form from the Flat and looks a player.
Flat winner for Hughie Morrison who won twice over hurdles at Fairyhouse last winter and he hinted his time was near when a runner-up at Galway (2m, soft) late last month. Raised 3lb but should be thereabouts once more.
Got off the mark in a maiden hurdle at Navan last December when upped to 2m7f and was only beaten 10L when fifth of 20 on his handicap debut at Punchestown in February. Open to improvement this term, respected on his return.
Bit frustrating in maiden hurdles last term but and was booked for a win at Gowran Park in March when unseating at the last. Decent effort when a 22L third at Punchestown 92m, soft) on his reappearance and mark looks fair.
Not the most consistent but plenty of ability as he proved when notching a third hurdles last time out at Thurles (2m7f, soft) in March. Has since joined a leading yard so of obvious interest on his reappearance from 7lb higher.
Dual winner over hurdles in late 2015 and also won a novice chase at Down Royal in January before ending the campaign with two poor efforts. Questions to answer on his reappearance back over hurdles.
Put together a string of fine wins over the summer with two chase wins and a hurdle win at Sligo. Good efforts since in novice chase wins but returns to hurdles on a 7lb higher mark than his last win. Better ground ideal.
Won a Fairyhouse handicap hurdle last New Years Day over 3m on soft ground but found it tougher going off higher marks last back-end and again when an 8L fourth on his reappearance at Limerick (2m6f, soft). This trip on the sharp side.
Won a maiden hurdle at Tramore last season but hasn't really kicked on in five subsequent starts since and even Ruby Walsh couldn't get him into serious contention at Galway last time. More needed off the same mark.
Fairyhouse bumper winner on his debut for Elizabeth Doyle and progressed over hurdles to score for this yard in January 2016. Not sighted since a below par run at Punchestown in April '16 and fitness is obviously a concern.
Very useful (rated 136) so his current mark over hurdles (116) is potentially exploitable and he was by no means disgraced over an inadequate 2m on his reappearance at Punchestown last month. Could go well at decent odds.
In good form since joining this yard, winning off a low mark at Limerick in the summer before adding a novice hurdle at Sligo (2m5f, heavy) to his tally in August. Open to further improvement, respected despite a rising mark.
Forecasts
Diamond Cauchois (11/4), Oscar Knight (5/1), Prospectus (13/2), Brave Out (7/1), Darkest Flyer (7/1), Glenloe (8/1), Grand Partner (10/1), Shannak (14/1), Kylecrue (14/1), Jack Dillinger (16/1), Eight Till Late (25/1), A Great View (33/1), Golan Lodge (40/1)
Thomas Mullins won this prize 12 months ago and he saddles another live contender in the shape of GRAND PARTNER with Paul Townend looking a notable booking. The nine-year-old has been lightly-raced over hurdles since scoring off a 7lb lower mark at Leopardstown last winter but has looked better than ever on the Flat recently and may still be on the upgrade. Diamond Cauchois is of obvious interest on his first start since joining Gordon Elliott whilst the likes of Prospectus and Darkest Flyer are also capable of making their presence felt.
- Grand Partner
- Diamond Cauchois
- Darkest Flyer
