Now back with a former yard having been around the block of late although he's not the most straightforward of horses. Put up a decent performance last time out at Carlisle (conceded first run to winner) but no banker to follow-up.

All his best form has come over trips further than the one that he faces today and he failed to justify support over a similar trip on heavy ground at Perth last time. May well find things happening all too quickly around here.

Buyer Beware93
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-10| J: J Kington(3)| T: P Holmes| OR:  117
20/1
Has shown some fair form on the Flat in the past but looks to have rather lost his way in that sphere of late. His one hurdles run for this yard came earlier in the year in a better race than this and he's best watched here.

Age: 6|  Weight: 11-5| J: Craig Nichol| T: R Dobbin| OR:  112| D

Showed improved form in June when landing a Tramore novice (helped by being held-up in strongly run race) and has shaped well on several occasions since. Now makes his debut for this yard and one to keep an eye on in the market.

Mixed all three spheres (Flat, hurdles and fences) for his previous yard this year winning over fences on his first start for them. Disappointed on his last start for them though and now has something to prove with another new yard.

Age: 6|  Weight: 11-3| J: Dale Irving(3)| T: M A Barnes| OR:  110| D

All his best/winning form has been shown at Hexham and this course is just about the polar opposite of that track. Remains 4lb above his last winning mark and the perch of 110 looks sure to test him here.
7

Superior Commandp,t31
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-2| J: D R Fox| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  109| CD
11/2
Won over C&D earlier in the year off a 6lb lower mark bouncing back to form and caught the eye on his recent return over 2m at Kelso. Given plenty to do on that occasions and may need a shade further than this to be seen at his best.

Age: 6|  Weight: 11-1| J: Callum Bewley(3)| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  108| D

Very much an improved performer on the Flat since joining this yard so it was disappointing to see a poor return to hurdles in August. Given a break since then he may do better here but does need to settle and jump better.

Jonny Delta23
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-1| J: Danny Cook| T: J S Goldie| OR:  108| C| D
16/1
Now in the veteran stage but knows his way around these environs on the Flat and over hurdles and has been in decent form on the Flat this season. Now reverts to hurdles for the first time since April.

Hardly looked well treated on his handicap debut at Wetherby in March but showed improved form to get off the mark in a race run to suit although he did win with a bit in hand. Only put up 4lb for that win and interesting if ready to go here.

Wot A Shot22
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-4| J: R D Day(3)| T: N G Richards| OR:  97| D
12/1
Finally managed to score in favourable circumstances at Perth in the summer and has to a certain extent stepped forward on that run since. His second at Huntingdon last time better than the finishing position; would benefit from a positive ride here.

Magnumt18
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-3| J: James Corbett(5)| T: S Corbett| OR:  96

His initial mark over hurdles looked a stiff one and in the light of some modest form since he's been dropped 9lb. Didn't really look as though he was one that was about to burst into life last time though.

Forecasts

Vercingetorix (3/1), Suggestion (4/1), Superior Command (11/2), Sindarban (8/1), Strong Economy (8/1), Wot A Shot (12/1), California Soul (12/1), King's Wharf (14/1), Jonny Delta (16/1), Desert Island Dusk (16/1), Buyer Beware (20/1), Magnum (33/1)

Verdict

An open contest with several coming into this with a good chance on their best form although a test at the trip is what a few of them need. Vercingetorix is a hard one to trust and he often flatters to deceive although he is now back with a yard that knows how to handle him. Superior Command showed that he was in good form last time although he might just be better suited by another half mile and its Phil Kirby’s SUGGESTION who gets the vote. He ran well to take a Wetherby handicap earlier in the year and if fit and ready to go here could well take some beating off this mark. Wot A Shot and Strong Economy are two others with chances although the latter would prefer a stiffer trip. If there is one to keep an eye on in the market then it’s the Rose Dobbin trained California Soul making his debut for the yard having shown some decent form in Ireland.
  1. Suggestion
  2. Superior Command
  3. California Soul
