Dual C&D winner who often comes from well off the pace to get involved having looked outpaced. Was in far better form last year (won three times) but is running below his best at present and making little impact.

A winner of a Southwell handicap chase in the summer he's struggled since then becoming more and more unreliable. Back from a break here but hardly makes a compelling sort to have on your side.

Usually seen at his best around Sedgefield and can travel well in his races although not guaranteed to go through with his effort. Managed to score in the summer off this mark but has looked rather a lull since then.

Back from a break and given a test of stamina at this trip last time out at Hexham on very heavy ground. Showed plenty of enthusiasm to win there by a short-head and has more to recommend him that most in this under very different conditions.

Has often hinted at being better than he has shown and did so again last time out at Kelso behind a pair who had dropped to lenient marks in the weights. Certainly looks well handicapped and dangerous if he does consent to put it all in.

Still capable of popping up on his day in lowly events such as this and did so last time out in a Kelso 0-100 over hurdles capitalising off his lowest mark for ages. Not quite as well treated over fences but dangerous to discount although can often throw in a stinker.

Managed to end a long losing run under a positive ride from 4lb out of the weights at Hexham in September. Hasn't really been able to build on that although the better ground here may well be a help; looks to struggle on soft/heavy these days.

Scored for the second time over fences in the same race at Sedgefield that he had scored his initial win in building on some good form (for him). Only modest though and form tailed off after that and now back from a break; unreliable.

Forecasts

Endeavor (9/4), John Williams (7/2), Cooper's Friend (5/1), Chestnut Ben (7/1), Muwalla (8/1), My Idea (10/1), Duhallowcountry (12/1), Stormbay Bomber (14/1)

Verdict

Plenty of headgear and temperament on display here and there could be some fun and games in-running in this. John Williams sets the standard although he will face very different conditions to those that he won in at Hexham recently and he’s been beaten off this mark before. Endeavor is back over fences but he definitely has two ways of running and although capable at this level this is a stiffer test than he faced over hurdles last time. Muwalla is another with a questionable temperament and it may well be that COOPER’S FRIEND can take advantage of the situation here. He’s another who has flattered to deceive in the past but he’s becoming too well handicapped to ignore now and at the prices he’s worth a shot in what is fairly modest contest.
  1. Cooper's Friend
  2. John Williams
  3. Muwalla
