Debut for Paul Henderson today after some respectable efforts in Irish point-to-points but yard struggling for any meaningful form and can only be watched today,
Getting the hang of things and appreciated the step up in trip to finish a decent third to The Welsh Paddies at Warwick last time out. Likely to progress again and each-way chances if handling the likely slower ground today.
Impressive winner of a point-to-point at Inch in April and purchased by current connections for £210,000 at sales not long after. Yard get plenty of success with these types and market likely to provide best guide as to what's expected today.
Well known for his tearaway tactics on the Flat but best form in that sphere on ground much quicker than he will encounter today, and the stamina strings may well be twanging long before the finish. Others preferred.
1-1 in point-to-points (form has worked out okay under Rules) and a £75,000 purchase for current connections in June of this year. Plenty to like o breeding and yard get plenty of winners in this sphere, so has to be taken seriously today.
Looked in need of further when a staying-on fifth to Mont Des Avaloirs here last time, so this step up in trip will suit. Will undoubtedly do better in time but yard going through a quiet time of it, and best watched today.
Sent off huge prices most starts to date and has shown little, so hard to make any sort of solid case for, and would be much better off in handicaps.
Some promise in bumpers but much better for hurdles and a step up in trip at Wincanton last time, staying on well to hit the frame. Will improve plenty for that run and with soft ground likely to prove no issue, can go close here.
Ran to a decent level in Irish bumpers for Ron O'Neill but a little disappointing on first start for this yard when sent off a short-priced favourite at Uttoxeter in October. Bit to prove after that and may find others improving past him.
Purchased for £90,000 by current connections after a comfortable success in an Irish point-to-point and showed immediate promise when second to easy winner Jerrysback at Wetherby on debut. Will improve this year and chance if fit.
£40,00 purchase after his win in a point-to-point at Eyton in April, related to a few winners and this sort of trip promises to suit him too. Yard starting to find a bit of form and not ruled out if there's market support today.
Only moderate form in bumpers and point-to-points to date and looks hard to fancy on that. Others readily preferred.
Nicely bred but sent off big prices on both starts and hasn't shown anywhere near enough to be challenging the principals here.
Showed some promise in a point-to-point at Courtown and bought for £36,000 at Cheltenham Sales not long after. In good hands but may not find this enough of a stamina test on debut, and others preferred.
Showed a bit of ability on only start in a point-to-point but the yard tend to take their time with their horses and he may be one for further down the line.
1-1 in point-to-points and purchased for £120,000 at April Cheltenham sales. Was clearly held in some regard as he went off odds-on for that win, has joined a top yard and must be high on anyone's list as a likely candidate here.
Forecasts
Western Honour (3/1), Plus One (4/1), Gowiththeflow (6/1), Now Mcginty (13/2), Mister Malarky (8/1), Chooseyourweapon (9/1), Barbrook Star (9/1), The Devils Drop (12/1), Luckime (20/1), Pontresina (33/1), Abbey Street (66/1), Waitinonasunnyday (66/1), Glens Wobbly (125/1), Snatchitback (150/1), Max Dynamo (200/1), Tekiblue de L'Orme (250/1)
A very difficult race to solve at this stage, with plenty that have shown form in the point-to-point field making their debut under Rules. The market will say plenty about their chances, but at the moment the expensive purchase CHOOSEYOURWEAPON makes plenty of appeal on paper, and was impressive when winning his point-to-point. Western Honour, Plus One, Pontresina and Barbrook Star all look likely types as well, with the last named making the most appeal for each-way players.
- Chooseyourweapon
- Western Honour
- Barbrook Star
