Not devoid of promise in two starts over hurdles for Keith Dalgleish, though if they are to be taken at face value then this looks a stiff enough mark for his handicap debut on his first start for this trainer.

Pulled up on his only start on heavy ground, though stayed on well to win by 5L on soft at Uttoxeter (2m4f) last time. Carries a penalty for that today, but couldn't rule out a follow-up success now that he is back in form.

Point-to-point winner who landed a Hexham novices' hurdle (2m, soft) in March by 24L and ran well here over 2m 1f next time. Returns after a break for this with a 2lb drop and at a trip where improvement looks possible. Interesting.

Sole success over hurdles was well over two years ago in maiden company and given today's conditions, there have to be concerns that all of his best form is on sound/fast ground. Beaten favourite last time and another 2lb rise unlikely to help.

His only win was at Plumpton (2m1f, heavy) in January from 3lb higher when with Gary Moore, but it has largely been downhill since. Is on a handy mark again, with his rider's claim also to deduct, but it still takes a leap of faith to support him.

Best form has been on good ground and conditions as testing at this are of great concern. Otherwise, he comes here in good form, though he has gone up a total of 6lb for his last two placed runs, making this a tough ask.

Scored over 2m7½f on heavy at Hexham last month when rated just 88. His other two wins, when with Dianne Sayer, were at around today's mark, so he is not ruled out now dropped to this trip if he is able to make it into a test.

Won here (2m1f, soft) three years ago when on today's mark and has added two further successes at Catterick. Yet to produce his best on heavy, but has been placed on it, gets this trip and could be competitive from this mark.

Handles heavy conditions, though his sole success was on soft at Uttoxeter (2m) last year. Proven over 2m7f, but things have not been going his way of late and, while he is on a dangerous mark, we need to see more before he can be recommended again.

Just 1-23, though trip and ground are fine for him. Of more concern is his wellbeing after just one start last season. Returns with new headgear combi and if fully wound up he is on a competitive marks, but has plenty to prove.

Sole appearance among the prizes was when an 18L second (66-1) at Hexham (2m, good) in May, but both that and her subsequent 14L defeat from 2lb higher on her handicap debut mark her out as a winner this time.

Forecasts

Turtle Cask (9/2), Number One London (5/1), Towering (6/1), Princess Mononoke (6/1), Greenworldsolution (6/1), Durbanville (15/2), Snowed In (10/1), Justatenner (22/1), Lucarno Dancer (22/1), Instingtive (25/1), Vodka Red (33/1)

Verdict

Turtle Cask is not ruled out here if he can bring his proven stamina over further into play on ground that suits, while Greenworldsolution would be of greater interest on better ground. Number One London has been nudged up for a defeat last time and with all of his best form on better ground, he is perhaps another one to take on. Towering has to be respected after scoring last time, though he has a penalty to shoulder and the suggestion is therefore PRINCESS MONONOKE, who should be suited by this longer trip and a slight drop in the weights.
  1. Princess Mononoke
  2. Towering
  3. Turtle Cask
