Lightly raced in recent years having had just the two starts last season and probably best watched off a mark 10lb higher than for his most recent success.
Wore cheekpieces for the first time when successful over an extended 2m at Sedgefield (good-to-soft) in January. Well beaten since but likely to have improved for his recent return to action over hurdles.
Six time winner in the past but handicap mark is falling rapidly following some modest efforts in recent starts. Now rated 23lb lower than for his most recent victory. Needs to step up on recent efforts to take this.
Disappointing since winner at Ludlow (2m, good-to-soft) in January and pulled up the last twice. Others have a more obvious chance today.
Five time winner but well beaten in recent starts including at Bangor over hurdles when last in action. Making his seasonal debut today.
Victorious on heavy ground over 2m in a handicap hurdle at Hexham last month but disappointed at Newton Abbot subsequently and failed to complete in three previous starts over fences.
IN good form earlier this year following up a third to a progressive rival by finishing runner-up at Ffos Las and winning at Stratford (2m1f, good) last time out. Raised 4lb for that success and one for the shortlist with ground and trip to suit
Inconsistent over hurdles and pulled up on debut over fences at Newton Abbot (good) earlier this month. Reverts to handicaps in this sphere for the first time today.
11-race maiden but has shown ability in the past and worth a check in the market tackling forecast good ground for the first time since racing in France.
Forecasts
Baraza (5/2), Volvalien (7/2), Witness In Court (4/1), Keep Moving (7/1), Take A Break (10/1), Keel Haul (12/1), Billy My Boy (14/1), Exmoor Mist (25/1), Truckers Highway (33/1)
BARAZA ended last season on a high in winning at Stratford and he can make a winning return to action in this competitive handicap chase. Tom George's charge has to defy a 4lb rise for that latest success but he appeared to have a bit in hand on that occasion and with the runner-up scoring since he is taken to get the better of Keep Moving who has disappointed so far on softer surfaces and encounters good ground for the first time since joining this yard. Volvalien has the ground and trip to suit today and can step up on his recent hurdles return by finishing third today.
- Baraza
- Keep Moving
