Respectable start to his chasing career by leading a four-runner field home at Newton Abbot in July. Not so convincing twice since - beaten in match-race with a well regarded stablemate last time. Form took a subsequent knock, so risks attached.

Off the mark over fences latest and should be suited by this step up to 3m (not an issue for him over hurdles). Official ratings hint he has a little to find but it's likely there is more to come and he has to be a player in a field of this size.

Highly experienced novice but has had many, many chances at getting off the mark over fences. Unlikely that he'll make it 62nd time lucky.

Third of seven on chasing debut needs to be improved upon but possible he can be found a race at this sort of level. Improvement needed but represents a trainer that is very capable of getting the best out of a stayer. Dangerous to dismiss.

Forecasts

Thumb Stone Blues (6/4), Sam Red (13/8), Bagad Bihoue (5/2), The Society Man (200/1)

Verdict

A tricky little contest that may revolve around how much RED SAM is progressing just now. The gelding stayed on in a pleasing manner to win at Stratford at the start of this month and this quick return to action looks a very positive move to strike whilst victory is still a fresh memory. Bagad Bihoue is an obvious danger and may well have been found a decent opportunity to get his chasing career back on track. The betting will be informative where he is concerned. Thumb Stone Blues is going the right way and could be worth a speculative punt, but does need his main rivals to under perform a tad.
