A winner at Kempton (6f) in August (only AW start) but has found life tougher off higher marks since, including when never able to get competitive at Catterick last time. Merits respect back on the AW.
First-time blinkers had the desired effect when opening her account over 6f at Wolverhampton in August. Won with something to spare that day but twice well-held off a revised mark since, so questions to answer.
Unfancied in three starts so far, though glimmers of improvement last time out when only beaten 4L behind Orange Suit at Newbury (6f, good). Not obviously well-treated for her handicap debut but open to improvement.
Flickers of promise in earlier minor events, including over 7f, but has gone backwards since going handicapping, beating only one home at Catterick (6f, good to soft) last time. Change of headgear this evening.
Showed up well on his debut at Doncaster (5f, soft) but has never really built on that, including in handicaps, though not disgraced when a 5L third on heavy ground at Carlisle last time. AW debut.
A runner-up on his debut over 5f at Leicester in early April but not too many positives since then, though ran better than the bare result suggests at Lingfield last time. Mark is beginning to fall.
A €60,000 purchase who has shown little improvement across his first four races, finishing stone last in first-time cheekpieces on his nursery debut at Thirsk in August. Gelded since, needs to raise his game.
Little to get excited about in three minor events so far over 5f and 6f, still looking green at Haydock last time out in July. Gelded since and interesting to see how he fares on his nursery debut after a break.
Eight-race maiden who ran her best race when just touched off in a 6f nursery at Catterick (good to soft) in July. Hasn't really kicked on, however, and was well beaten on her AW debut at Chelmsford recently.
Fair pedigree but, despite the odd glimpse of promise, he is struggling to deliver. Didn't appear to stay 7f here last time and hard to get over-excited about despite dropping back in trip off a 3lb lower mark.
Has managed to beat very few rivals home in three turf starts so far and a switch to the AW for his handicap debut over C&D failed to spark any real improvement when finishing eighth of nine. More needed.
Not beaten far in three nurseries over 7f, including on the AW, but disappointing when dropped to 6f at Redcar (good to soft) last time. A bit to prove after that but first-time cheekpieces may help.
A 14,000 guineas purchase who is related to a few winners but no impact in three minor events between 5f and 7f so far. No surprise to see her fare better now sent handicapping from a lowly mark.
Improved on on her third start when a runner-up in a 6f seller at Redcar in August but took a step backwards when well down the field in a 20-runner event over that C&D on her nursery debut. Plenty to prove.
Forecasts
Ray Purchase (9/2), Arty But Poor (5/1), W G Grace (5/1), Just For Fun (6/1), Mabo (10/1), Zain Flash (11/1), Plundered (12/1), Albarino (14/1), Dyson's Girl (16/1), Avon Green (22/1), Cuppacoco (33/1), Magic Ship (33/1), Little Monkey (33/1), Duke Of Freedom (66/1)
The only time W G GRACE encountered an AW surface he scored a shade cosily at Kempton. He hasn't proved quite as effective on turf since but this return to an artificial surface should see him in a better light and his current mark doesn't look beyond him. It's hard to work up too much enthusiasm about the remainder, though a case could be made for each of the Richard Fahey pair, Just For Fun and Mabo, whilst Ray Purchase could be a threat if galvanised by first-time cheekpieces.
- W G Grace
- Ray Purchase
- Mabo
