Unsurprisingly no match for a couple of promising rivals at Kelso last month (2m good), but has jumps winners in his pedigree and will handle this slightly longer trip judged upon his Sedgefield debut second to Nemean Lion (2m4f).

Fetched £200,000 at Cheltenham in February 2016 after winning a 3m Kirkistown point-to-point in style earlier that month. Bitterly disappointing in a Bangor bumper subsequently, but this looks more suitable for his first start since December 2016.
Runner up on his sole start so far (point-to-point), but has moved onto pastures new and looks capable of making his mark under rules. Hurdles debut.

Sprung a 25/1 shock when making all and winning a Towcester bumper in deep ground by 4L on his second start in February. Solid enough when third at Cheltenham subsequently and a potentially fair hurdles newcomer.

Cost £22,000 as a four-year-old and did okay on debut when fifth of 13 to Mayo Star in a Newcastle bumper (soft) in December 2016. Hurdles newcomer. Better with more time. Stable also saddles Slanelough.

Runner up on debut at Ayr in January (2m soft), beaten a neck by Donna's Delight. However that race possibly left it's mark with much more non-descript showings thereafter. With high profile owners and possibly stronger for a break on hurdles debut.

An 11 race maiden on the Flat with an official rating of just 46, so plenty to prove on hurdles debut, and appears to have little chance in this contest.

Made the frame on three occasions in five starts in Irish point-to-points, including when a beaten favourite at Broughshane in April. Much more required on rules/hurdles debut.

Stablemate of Heather Burning. Cost £45,000 in May 2016 and hasn't repaid that investment yet despite shaping with distinct promise. A three time runner up, including at Kelso in April (2m2f good) when splitting Blue Hussar and Mayo Star.

Formerly with Stuart Crawford, but was returning from in excess of 18 months off (stable debut) when finishing last of nine to Golden Jeffrey at Perth last month (2m heavy). Back number.

Cost £17,000 in June after taking a 3m Dromahane point-to-point by 4L the previous month. Back-peddling on his hurdles debut at Uttoxeter (2m maiden) earlier this month when unseating his rider at the second last.

Didn't show all that much in bumpers for Henry Oliver, but exchanged hands privately for £8,000 in September, and starts off over hurdles for a trainer who has saddled winners in the past at this track.

Forecasts

Destined To Shine (5/2), Slanelough (3/1), Bal De Rio (5/1), Hello Fellas (6/1), Colt Lightning (8/1), Cesar Collonges (10/1), Stay In Touch (28/1), Tequila Secret (33/1), Heather Burning (50/1), Shanmullagh (50/1), Southsea Island (200/1), Papagayo (200/1)

Verdict

A couple of horses to keep an eye on for the future in this contest, most notably the £200,000 purchase Cesar Collonges. However, in terms of today, the horse which makes by far the most appeal is the Rose Dobbin trained SLANELOUGH. He was a mere snip at just £45,000 by comparison, and whilst yet to get off the mark over hurdles, his most recent effort at Kelso when splitting Blue Hussar and Mayo Star looks rock-solid with the winner tasting success on the Flat in a Class 4 2m handicap at York over the summer. Perhaps Bal De Rio is the most likely danger. He was out of his depth at Kelso recently when facing the exciting pair Beyond The Clouds and Some Reign (a stablemate of the selection) and he shouldn't be judged over harshly on that showing accordingly.
  1. Slanelough
  2. Bal De Rio
  3. Destined To Shine
