A very smart sprinter who has run in some top-class races in his time, with all his wins coming over 5f including over C&D. Scored at similar level last time at Beverley (5f heavy) with Ornate behind and looks sure to be thereabouts.

Experienced performer and is a former C&D winner but surely going to find it tough to land a blow on these terms.

Scored at Newmarket and Nottingham winner earlier in the season over this trip on good ground, held by Alpha Delphini last time out at Beverley (5f, heavy) and if there is give underfoot may struggle to turn that around.

Has been out of sorts since scoring over 6f (soft) at Nottingham in June, drops back to the minimum trip here and sports first-time blinkers, stiff ask.

Scored over 5f at Haydock last month on heavy going off a mark of 87, well held there since carrying additional 5lb and this demands a career-best to upset the likely market principles.

Forecasts

Alpha Delphini (6/5), Ornate (6/4), Mayleaf Shine (4/1), Zapper Cass (66/1), I'll Be Good (80/1)

Verdict

This could develop into a match between ALPHA DELPHINI and Ornate, who finished first and third respectively at Beverley last month. The latter has a very useful pull at the weights in his bid to turn things around but, so long as soft is in the going description, Graham Lee's mount is fancied to uphold the form. He's a likeable performer and Ornate does want a decent surfrace to be seen to best effect. Mayleaf Shine rates the best of the remaining trio, though they all surely require the front two in the market to falter.
  1. Alpha Delphini
  2. Ornate
  3. Mayleaf Shine
