Well beaten in two bumpers so far both with cut in the ground around the turn of the year. Cur little ice in those two starts and best watched here.

There are bumpers winners in the family but he started at 50/1 and was beaten a long way in his sole bumper so far. Admittedly that was a better contest than this but he would need to show a fair level of progress to get involved.

From a leading stable but for one of that ilk their strike-rate in bumpers in very modest especially with debutantes. Has to be respected especially with the champion jockey booked but the overall record is a question mark against him.

40/1
His debut effort at Uttoxeter in the summer hinted at some ability but six weeks on he failed to match that form and turned in a poor effort failing to settle. Hood now goes on for the first time but the yard are hardly known for their bumper winners.
Cost €34,000 as a three-year-old and runs for a yard whose last three bumpers runners have gone 121 and are often well backed. There are bumper winners in the pedigree and he's a newcomer to note.

Made favourite for her debut on soft ground at Perth in August she could only manage a modest 5th in a steadily run bumper that rather turned into a sprint. The surface may not have been ideal and she's worth another chance now.

Forecasts

Shoal Bay (5/4), The Go Tou Man (3/1), Eau De Nile (7/2), Mahlermade (4/1), Clondaw Native (5/1), Silk Run (6/1), Some Ambition (8/1), Commanche Red (25/1), Texan Nomad (40/1), Black Jack Jaxon (50/1), Fair Westerner (50/1)

Verdict

This looks the weaker of the two divisions of the bumper but it’s not without interest and in THE GO TOU MAN trainer Harry Whittington introduces an appealing newcomer with two of his recent bumper winners also scoring on their debuts so he can clearly get one ready first time up. Mahlermade has some experience to call on and should put that to good use with Clonsaw Native and Some Ambition a pair of debutantes who are also worth a check. The Pipe team are a little quiet at the moment but their Silk Run has obviously shown ability as she started favourite on her debut and will be seen to better effect in a truly run race. Shoal Bay also looks sure to be noted in the market although the overall bumper record of this top yard limits his appeal somewhat.
  1. The Go Tou Man
  2. Mahlermade
  3. Clondaw Native
