Showed signs of greeness, but strong enough to strike at the first attempt in a bumper here in May 2016 (2½L winner). Has left the care of Alex Dunn for pastures new, and commands respect on hurdles debut.
Picked up for £31,000 in December 2015 (Cheltenham) after taking a Glenbane point-to-point (3m yielding) by a neck the previous month. Given plenty of time off since, but from decent jumping stock, so should make his mark with more experience.
Won by 12L on his second start in a Necarne point-to-point in May (3m maiden, yielding), and was sold to new connections for £70,000 at Doncaster shortly thereafter. Key player on hurdles debut.
Not figured in either of his two starts in bumpers (Warwick and Kempton) and now switches to hurdles for the first time needing to show significantly more application up against some potentially useful rivals.
Unraced gelding by Network out of Mascarpone who cost €40,000 as a three-year-old. His dam was useful over fences in France (2m4f-2m5f), but importantly also has family links to speed, being a half-sister to the prolific miler My Stone.
Far from the finished article so far (bumpers or hurdles) and likely to have to settle for a rear-division finish on the strength of a tame effort on heavy ground at Newton Abbot (2m5½f) just ten days ago.
A lowly rated six time winner on the Flat (from 44 starts), but not since October 2015, and never over much further than 1m. Made a dismal hurdles debut at Newton Abbot last month and is safely ignored.
A two time winner in point-to-points, this fourth foal is a brother to 3m chase winner Cosway Spirit. Therefore, he is most unlikely to have the required attributes or level of ability to realistically compete over hurdles at this trip.
Beaten 15½L by Mulcahys Hill on debut in a Stratford bumper in May (good to soft), and needs to take a massive step forward on his hurdles debut in order to make any significant impression this afternoon.
No joy in point-to-points with her four starts featuring more letters than numbers. From a moderate dam (Briery Breeze) and realistically has very little chance on her rules/hurdles debut.
Forecasts
Good Man Pat (11/10), Challico (9/4), Master Work (13/2), D'Arcy's Sound (7/1), Young Phoenix (14/1), Mister Drifter (33/1), The Ibbster (50/1), Linkenholt (66/1), Winter Squaw (66/1), Rocket Ronnie (100/1)
A race which serves to dispel the myth of the oft said words 'less is more', with a second pleasing division of a potentially informative novices hurdle to enjoy. The Paul Nicholls trained CHALLICO is a half-brother to another former Alex Dunn trained inmate (Blu Cavalier; who runs for the stable in the opener), and there was plenty to like about his debut bumper success here in May 2016. Whilst he has hurdles to clear this afternoon, and softer ground to encounter as well as a whole host of promising rivals to overcome including Good Man Pat and Master Work, he can put that valuable course experience to use over a slightly longer trip which should help to see him in an even stronger light.
- Challico
- Good Man Pat
- Master Work
