Not overly convincing over hurdles so far, but slightly better when beaten approximately 18L (fourth) at Worcester last month (2m4f good to soft). Further improvement necessary.
Formerly trained by Alex Dunn and won a Taunton bumper in November 2015 by 3¼L (beat Boudry). Off since March 2016, and now makes his hurdles debut for new connections.

Finished a tailed off last of 11 on his sole start in a Catterick bumper in February 2016, and returns to action from an absence over hurdles for a new yard. Wears a hood.
Beaten 2½L by Lalor in the Grade 2 Aintree bumper in April following a narrow stable debut success at Lingfield in February. Fascinating hurdles debutant from a strong jumping family.

Cost €80,000 as a three-year-old, largely due to the fact his dam Fairy Dawn is a sister to Gold Cup winner Kicking King. Green on bumper debut at Fontwell in February (fourth), but likely to develop quickly now switched to obstacles.

Finished close up behind Lalor and Enniscoffrey Oscar when fourth in the Grade 2 Aintree bumper in April. Represents powerful connections, and was unbeaten in bumpers prior to that, so fully capable of similar now switched to hurdles.

Not figured in any of his three attempts over hurdles (always in rear). Back from a summer break, and a major worry that he burst a blood vessel on his most recent start at Stratford in May.

Finished a distant third in a Fontwell bumper in June 2016 (beaten 32L), and fared no better at this track subsequently (pulled up) following a six month break. Makes his hurdles debut, and is a likely back number.

Unraced fifth foal by Beat All out of Ela D'Argent. Half-brother to point-to-point winner Beau D'Argent, so in very deep on hurdles debut.
Useful in point-to-points (won twice in six starts), and made a winning rules debut for Pat Fahey in an Aintree bumper in May (beating Aptly Put by 11L). Sold later that month for £48,000 and starts off over hurdles for a well respected trainer.

Forecasts

If The Cap Fits (1/2), Enniscoffey Oscar (7/2), Blu Cavalier (4/1), Station Master (7/1), Golden Sunrise (16/1), Aero Majestic (40/1), Lake Placid (150/1), Snazz Man (150/1), Dave The Rave (150/1), Menapian (200/1)

Verdict

A race packed with potential to kick start another winter campaign at Exeter. Hopes will be high for a number of these horses, many of whom have joined new connections following success in bumpers. The likes of Blu Cavalier (Paul Nicholls) and Station Master (Kim Bailey) fit that profile. However, they will need to be classy recruits if ENNISCOFFREY OSCAR and If The Cap Fits can reproduce a similar level of ability over hurdles to that shown in bumpers. There was precious little to separate the pair in the valuable Grade 2 bumper at Aintree in April (won by Lalor), and a narrow preference is for the Emma Lavelle trained runner, who should appreciate the stiff and testing nature of this particular track.
  1. Enniscoffey Oscar
  2. If The Cap Fits
  3. Station Master
