Returned from a break with a smooth success at the second time of asking over hurdles here last month (2m4f heavy). Has stamina within his dam's extended family and no concerns with regards this longer trip.
Off the mark over hurdles in a match (1/6f) at Carlisle in May; 3m1f good, and that was due reward for some consistent enough efforts. Likely to handle this ground and has been found another relatively moderate event.
Winner of the 2012 Eider Chase at Newcastle in his prime, but was well down the pack in the Scottish National when last in action in April. Not the force of old, but kick starts another winter campaign over hurdles.
An 18 race maiden who has plenty of previous Hexham experience, but looks of a very limited level of ability and couldn't be considered.
Forecasts
Heart Of Kernow (11/10), Portrait King (7/4), Monsieur Arkadin (7/2), Beyondtheflame (100/1)
With Portrait King now firmly in the veteran stage of his career, and likely to need this hurdles reappearance, this contest is basically a match. Monsieur Arkadin is solid enough and with form in handicap hurdles sets a mark of 112 as the target to match for HEART OF KERNOW. The Nigel Hawke trained runner was one of a pair of winners to make the long journey North from Devon last month, and he looks likely to make it three from three for the stable in rural Northumberland today.
- Heart Of Kernow
- Monsieur Arkadin
- Portrait King
