18 race maiden prior to arriving with this trainer, but successful on both starts for the yard thus far, narrowly seeing off Bohernagore by a neck at Sedgefield latest (2m1f good). Up in trip and a further 11lb, but on the right tracks.
Was registering just a second rules success when scoring at Market Rasen in August (2m½f good) but backed that up with a fair third placed effort at Hexham the following month. Rising in the weights, and stamina a slight concern.
A seven race maiden who is having his first start since May, and whilst making the frame on his handicap debut at Warwick on that occasion (2m3f good to soft), he didn't find masses for pressure or scream obvious future winner.
Had some form in Ireland over the minimum trip for Noel Meade during the spring of 2016, but not so strong since upped in trip in handicaps. From a useful family and could do better on stable debut for an emerging new trainer.
Given a 6lb rise for his Sedgefield August success (2m5f good), and that's probably fair as he beat the subsequent winner Mathayus by 1¼L. His talented claimer removes the majority of that rise, so must surely be on the premises.
Has split much of his hurdles successes between here and at Fontwell, with his latest success coming over 2m (good) at this track in late May. A 3lb higher mark shouldn't prove beyond him, but he got no further than the first latest.
Still 6lb above her last (and sole) winning mark of 77 at Hereford in October 2016, however, a return to hurdling should suit given her recent unsuccessful exploits over the larger obstacles. Pulled up on her sole previous visit to this track (C&D).
An 11 race maiden who truthfully doesn't appear to have all that much ability. She finished runner up on her last start at Stratford in May (2m2½f good), but was beaten 13L by the fairly moderate six-year-old Bitter Virtue.
A 13 race maiden who appears regressive, and despite being dropped 4lb since her August runs at Bangor and Stratford makes no obvious appeal.
Forecasts
Shrubland (6/5), Irish Hawke (9/2), Clay Allison (8/1), Midnight Gypsy (9/1), Cosmic Diamond (12/1), Winido (14/1), Osgood (16/1), Romann Angel (20/1), Bollin Line (20/1)
Dan Skelton has found the key to Shrubland and he's unbeaten in two starts for the yard, but he looks vulnerable (even in this company) from an 11lb higher mark given the longer trip. Whilst the majority of the field make no or little appeal, the claims of IRISH HAWKE are all too obvious. In some ways he might have been fortunate to have beaten the rapidly improving subsequent winner Mathayus at Sedgefield in August, but with the bulk of his 6lb rise effectively removed by the 5lb claim of Lorcan Murtagh, he's effectively a winner without a penalty in a fairly grim contest.
- Irish Hawke
- Clay Allison
- Shrubland
