Was recording a second straight success when winning over 2m4½f here in May, but didn't get home over 3m at Southwell subsequently from a 3lb higher mark. Ground fine, and has won over this trip in the past. First start since June.
Veteran, but not the force of old and hasn't done all that much racing over hurdles in the past 18 months or so. Freshened up since contesting stayers events on the Flat at Pontefract in June, but probably safest to look elsewhere.
An eight race maiden, and his current mark is perhaps not overly generous. That said, he lacks experience in handicaps so is unexposed and will have no problems with the surface over a trip he should stay. Wears cheek-pieces for the first time.
Consistent enough since switched to hurdles (novices) without necessarily appearing out of the ordinary. Driven out to see off sole realistic rival Burrows Lane at Southwell last month (3m good), and conditions are ideal for his handicap debut.
Has performed well over fences during the summer at his beloved Perth, winning twice during July (2m4f) and rising sharply in the weights accordingly. Much better treated over hurdles, but not able to take advantage of this mark at Market Rasen.
Made only steady progress since returning from a ten month break in May, but did finish in the frame over 2m7½f at Uttoxeter last month (well held), and has slipped back to a much fairer mark.
Raised 3lb for finishing second to Rough Justice over fences at Market Rasen in August (3m good), and that looks particularly harsh as he didn't appear to be the most willing of participants. Capable on his day, and now returns to hurdles.
A two time winner over hurdles, but has mixed that discipline with fencing latterly. Now 4lb higher than his last start over timber, a 2L second to Vendredi Trois at Worcester in June (2m7f good).
Runner up to Midnight Monty over 3m2f here in April, and handicapped to go well from a 7lb lower mark. However his recent efforts are less alluring, and this former Chris Grant trained in-mate needs to have been freshened up by a spin over fences.
Forecasts
Air Squadron (3/1), Royale Django (9/2), Generous Chief (6/1), Dreamsoftheatre (7/1), Captainofindustry (7/1), Tangolan (8/1), Teak (12/1), Mr Fenton (12/1), Brave Helios (18/1)
Plenty of course form on offer, but a largely unconvincing collection of participants, so in all probability, this is a race which could take relatively little winning. That said; proven stamina is a pre-requisite, which might just find out the unexposed (in handicaps) Mr Fenton. Tangolan is well treated over hurdles based upon his fast rising chasing mark, and given his preference for Perth, he could well prove suited by this broadly similar flat track, whilst Dreamsoftheatre is fully capable if in the mood. However, the safest option is the most obvious one, and with ground conditions ideal, recent 3m Southwell novices hurdle winner AIR SQUADRON is the pick on his handicap debut.
