Won over hurdles at the first time of asking in a similar contest at Warwick (soft) in March. Steps up in trip today, which ought to suit and also carries a penalty. Will need improvement but yard's only recent runner won, so very much respected.

Runner-up in both runs over hurdles so far, probably not getting quite as far as 3m1½f first time at Catterick (soft) and slightly unlucky when dropped back to this sort of trip at Worcester (good to firm) in May. Has claims, though stable quiet.

Stayed on well to finish runner-up in a bumper on her first start for this yard in April. Hurdles debut today and is related to success over obstacles, while at the same time being in very good hands. Should be capable of a good showing.

Runner-up in an Irish maiden mares' point-to-point in February, though well beaten in both completed starts over hurdles in the spring. Has a nice enough pedigree, though plenty to prove at present.

Has won a couple of Flat handicaps at around 1m4f (on good/good to firm) and handles soft ground. First run for this trainer today and although she looks to have a bit to find on paper, she should not be underestimated.

Was the easy winner of a debut bumper at Newbury (soft) in March and then runner-up under a penalty at Carlisle next time. Plenty of hurdling success in her pedigree and should be capable of making an impact on debut in this sphere.
Another who won a bumper on debut (good to soft) and then made the frame on her hurdles debut over a similar trip at Chepstow last November. Not seen since then. Has bags of stamina in her pedigree. Can clearly go well fresh and is respected.

Improved for her first run though still bear just one home in a Towcester bumper when last seen in May. Is a half-sister to a hurdle/chase winner out of a full-sister to a French hurdle/chase winner, so hope to see some improvement from her now.

Cost €42,000 last year. Closely related to three winners, including in bumpers/hurdles/chases and out of a 2m5f hurdle winner who stayed 3m1f. Should enjoy getting her toe in and is one to note on her racecourse debut.

Forecasts

Black Sam Bella (11/8), Big Penny (15/8), Tangley (7/1), Libby T Valance (17/2), Lady Mix (11/1), Jersey Jewel (33/1), Oi Oi (50/1), Hollow Park (66/1), Monrocco (66/1)

Verdict

More interesting than many races of its kind and BLACK SAM BELLA is the suggestion today. Dan Skelton's mare should begin to blossom now going over hurdles and given that he has had time to work with her, she is likely to be able to give a very good account. Tangley is respected as a winner already over timber, while Big Penny knows the drill, though the stable's recent form is a slight concern. All of the others have some positives to bring to the contest, with Libby T Valance just preferred this time to Jersey Jewel and Lady Mix.
