Improving sort who battled on gamely on his first try over 1m6f at Haydock three weeks ago (soft) to get within ½L of Nordic Combined. Up 3lb but claimer ridden and first time blinkers are applied as he drops in trip and switches to the AW.

Rip Van Winkle gelding who goes beyond 1m for the first time for his handicap debut. Showed some ability, and an effectiveness on this surface when just over 1L third to Musikel on debut here in March.

The handicapper has largely had her measure since winning at Catterick in May (1m4f good to firm), but in that time she's shown she goes well enough on Tapeta (at Wolverhampton). Seemingly didn't stay 2m at Chester latest.

His final start in a maiden at Nottingham in June (1m+) offered plenty of promise, but he's not quite kicked on since upped in trip in handicaps. That said; his 1m3f Kempton second to Therthaar looks rock solid (third has won since).

Progressive on turf this summer winning four times since May, seeing his official rating rise 16lb in total. That progression appeared to plateau at Brighton latest, but early too dismiss as he's upped in trip on the AW (0 from 7 on synthetics).

Not quite able to get his head in front just yet despite 11 attempts. His form over 1m/1m1f is reasonable, but he's not fully convinced over longer trips, and despite a drop in the weights, he's opposed.

Proved herself a reliable sort in low grade handicaps, and has coped well with a step up in trip as the season has progressed. Beaten ½L by Plage Depampelonne on her first try at 1m6f at Redcar last month, but up another 3lb.

Eight race maiden, and the handicapper looks as though he has him on the right mark judged upon his recent Wolverhampton placed efforts. However, by Galileo, those runs have implied he can improve upped in trip, and on that score he's of interest.

Won just once in 23 starts; at Wolverhampton in January. However, he can be relied upon to run well at this track, and was just edged out in a three way duel over C&D three weeks ago (beaten a neck and a nose).

Verdict

A decent middle distance handicap to kick off proceedings, and a race in which a couple of potential improving sorts are lurking. The handicapper would appear to have the eight race maiden Sir Gnet locked down on his current mark, but there's every likelihood that a step up in trip can unleash some further improvement, and it's fully plausible that we've not seen this Galileo colt at his very best just yet. Pioneertown has proved a shade in and out, but his Kempton effort behind Therthaar earlier this month puts him bang in contention at a galloping track which should play to his strengths. However, the lightly raced filly LOVE CONQUERS boasts the strongest credentials. Her Newbury second to White Desert in July (maiden) reads very well and she can strike at the second attempt in a handicap now linking up with a rider who excels at this track.
  1. Love Conquers
  2. Sir Gnet
  3. Pioneertown
