Wide margin winner of an AW contest last year and highly tried since. Produced a career best in first time cheekpieces when runner-up in a Newmarket Class Three event but much poorer in a hot race last time. Best efforts have come under this rider.

Form of his Lingfield victory has worked out nicely before bumping into a well-handicapped rival. Last two runs have been poor including latest two weeks ago. Hard to fancy on that evidence.

Veteran of 100 races who has been well beaten on his last three starts and is now 11lb lower than last win. Recent form has not indicated he is likely to bounce back soon.

Mark continues to look attractive and this is his favoured surface. Has begun to look unreliable and may want more of a trip nowadays. There is no obvious pace angle in this and a tactical affair would be another negative.

Proved competitive from this mark in similar company back in March. Has won over hurdles since and boasts a 5-15 success rate on AW tracks. Scored after a four month layoff in January and returns from a similar break here.

Stable are in good shape at present and there was plenty of positives to take from his return last month. Trip and ground are perfect so one to note from a mark 5lb lower than for his last success in June 2016.

Only had five starts and won a C&D maiden in January. Subsequent efforts suggest the handicapper may have over-estimated the form of that race though and he needs to improve if he's to figure.

Rattled up a hat-trick in handicaps (after being gelded) and has his first run for new connections who splashed out 85,000 gns. Sole start on an AW track is inconclusive but sire's progeny don't usually have a problem adapting. Rider 3-6 for yard.

Best effort came when splitting a pair of mid-80s rated horses over C&D a year ago. Produced that effort after a break and would be a threat if reproducing the same here.

Fairly treated judged on his maiden victory when accounting for a subsequent winner. Best effort since came over this trip and closely matches him with Batts Rock. Should be thereabouts on that form and with this trip a better fit than last time.

Generally gives her running although something appeared amiss on penultimate start. Out of the weights here but still has one victory and three placed efforts from five starts off this adjusted mark so she carries obvious each-way potential.

Verdict

Batts Rock and Regicide have proved somewhat in and out performers who need to run to their best to land this. The former has a rider on board who knows how to coax the best from him and is feared as a result. Cry Wolf is a likely outsider as he arrives with a similar preparation which produced to his career best effort over C&D a year ago. Saumur is a consistent mare who could make the frame at least and Knight Music represents a small yard whose horses are going well. He is well handicapped on his best form and has to be respected. POW WOW has joined a good yard after three straight wins following a gelding operation. A 10lb rise in the weights may prove generous having beaten a subsequent triple winner by 9L on his latest start. Special Relation improved for stepping up to this trip last time but has not raced for three months and was withdrawn having refused to enter the stalls in July.
