Unexposed over this trip but ran well when returned to it at Catterick last time and beaten just ½L. Acts well on good to firm and from the same mark he looks a leading contender.
Has won twice over this distance this season, the latest being on fast ground at Carlisle two starts ago. 7lb higher going into this and was held from this mark at Beverley on Saturday, so has to find a bit more.
Goes well over this trip and on a sound/fast surface as evidenced by his Catterick win last time out. Runs under a penalty this time and recent efforts from similar marks to this suggest that he will have his work cut out to follow up.
Has already won twice here this season, both on fast ground. Held by the handicapper since the latest of those, but now that he has dropped to a 4lb lower mark he may be able to get much more competitive. Not ruled out.
Back to form in his last three runs and went well over C&D (soft) two starts ago from the same mark as today. That offers some hope that with his claimer up, he can go very close, provided he handles these quicker conditions as well.
Has a Beverley maiden over 1m½f to his name, but yet to win a handicap and his best efforts have been over further than today. Capable of going well from this mark, though could be tapped for toe over the shortest trip that he has tried.
Unexposed over this far after just three attempts, but 6f and soft ground look to be the ideal scenario for him, neither of which he gets here. 2lb drop won't harm but others preferred.
Forecasts
Magical Effect (7/4), Dark Profit (7/2), Thomas Cranmer (4/1), Sakhee's Return (8/1), Roaring Forties (9/1), Royal Connoisseur (14/1), Jabbaar (14/1)
Thomas Cranmer clearly carries risks on recent evidence, though the return here could spark a revival and a better effort would not surprise from what is a good mark. Roaring Forties is entitled to plenty of respect, while Sakhee's Return could get competitive but did not have much to spare when winning last time. The suggestion, therefore, is MAGICAL EFFECT, who is unexposed over this trip and has conditions to suit.
- Magical Effect
- Thomas Cranmer
- Roaring Forties
