His pedigree makes plenty of appeal on paper and he produced a good first effort over a mile under considerate handling looking as though he would stay further. Likely to build on that run although will have to cope with softer ground.

Showed a little promise at a low level in handicapping terms on her first start for this yard but hasn't built on that at all. Faces a very stiff task at the weights here and a return to handicaps looks on the cards if she's to win.

Crystal River301

Like her main rival (Bombay) she comes here with just one run under her belt and offered something to work on from her debut on the Newcastle Tapeta over 7f. Looks as though she will be suited by this trip but a little more will be needed.

40/1
Started at 25/1 and was unfancied on her Newbury debut over 1m4f and looked in need of the experience running very green. Will know more this time around but the trip looks too short for her and she has run into two decent rivals here.

Forecasts

Bombay (5/6), Crystal River (1/1), Farage (40/1), Irvine Lady (100/1)

Verdict

Not the most inspiring start to the card and it looks as though the betting will probably tell the tale here with the best form held by BOMBAY as long as he copes with this softer surface, His form is better than that of Crystal River who steps up to a mile although it would be a surprise to see either beaten by Farage or Irvine Lady both of whom will be better off in handicaps of the low-grade variety.
  1. Bombay
  2. Crystal River
  3. Farage
