Showed modest ability for Ian Semple and then failed to make the track when with Iain Jardine. Makes debut for new yard after a year's absence and probably best observed.
Showed little for Dermot Weld and it was a similar story on his debut for this yard two weeks ago. Trainer/jockey combination are 5-29 here but otherwise there are few positives to be taken.
Took a backward step last time on handicap debut but it seems likely the bad ground and a demanding mark played their part. Had indicated some ability when a well beaten second at Redcar but he would still need to improve. Stable 1-49 this year.
Has looked a bit short of pace in recent sprints and overdue a crack at this trip. Sets a clear standard on his placed efforts and has been found a weak race.
€50,000 Yearling by Dutch Art who was sent off as hot favourite for his Newcastle debut in January. The form amounts to little but he looked desperately in need of the experience. The subsequent absence and the fitting of cheekpieces are a concern.

A race that should take little winning although the candidates have another enough issues to make a vote difficult to cast. Van Velde represents a yard that are going well. The fact he was sent off favourite on his debut must mean something, but that was a poor race and his absence since must flag concerns unless there are confident signals from the ring. As a result EQUIANO SPRINGS looks more viable now that he steps up in trip. He has been found lacking pace over shorter but this extra furlong should help him and a BHA rating of 72 sets him apart from his rivals.
