Probably needed the run on seasonal debut as the gelding went on to finish third of 10, beaten just over 2L last time out. Good form here at the track.

Billy De Kidt43
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-10| J: K J Brouder(7)| T: T Cooper| OR:  100

Best run in four starts this season was last time out in Killarney handicap hurdle over 2m4f on good ground. Finished second here in a maiden hurdle last season.

Kilganer Queent7
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-9| J: Brian Hayes| T: Miss D O'Shea| OR:  99| D

Won with the fitting of a first-time tongue-tie in a Sligo 2n5f handicap hurdle on soft to heavy ground, beating 13 rivals earlier this month. Quick return and tongue-tie still on will suit.
4
Horse silk
Perfect Leader32
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-6| J: D J Mullins| T: P Hogan| OR:  96
9/1
Disappointing in four starts this season, before a promising third of 14, beaten over 6L at Wexford. Has struggled on a softer surface in the past, though distance and size of field will suit.
5
Horse silk
Wee Tigerb,t22
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-4| J: A E Lynch| T: R Hackett| OR:  94
6/1
Solid run on seasonal debut at Tipperary in May, but had failed to build on that run, until a fine second of 20 in Cork handicap hurdle earlier this month. 3lb rise for that run may not help.
6
Horse silk
Ashjanb,t35
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-3| J: S P Kelly(7)| T: M M McNiff| OR:  99
20/1
Won a Downpatrick handicap hurdle in June on good ground and subsequently raised 8lb for than run that clearly stopped him last time out here in July.
7
Horse silk
Eiri Na Cascap20
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-3| J: D G Hogan| T: D Hogan| OR:  93| C| D

Has won at the track and over the distance in a Tipperary handicap chase in July. Still a maiden and last seen over hurdles when seventh of 16 in Limerick handicap last August.

Horsenjockeyt122
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-3| J: A McCurtin(5)| T: J J Walsh| OR:  93
25/1
Well beaten and often tailed-off in five starts this season, including here in May when beaten 25L. Hard to see what improvement first-time tongue-tie will bring.
9
Horse silk
Cnoc Na Sioga7
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-0| J: Danny Mullins| T: J P Ryan| OR:  90| D
14/1
Veteran who has suffered some heavy defeats this season in five start, though did show a little promise last time out at Sligo last week. Now 26lb lower than last win.
10
Horse silk
Spancil Hill144
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-9| J: M A Enright| T: M J McDonagh| OR:  85
7/1
Won a Wexford handicap chase over the extended 3m1f on soft ground in April. Still an eight race maiden over hurdles and probably best watched on seasonal debut.
11
Horse silk
Barney Kingt386
Age: 13|  Weight: 10-5| J: C D Maxwell| T: J G Carr| OR:  81| CD
25/1
Veteran who showed there was still life in the old boy when second of 16, beaten 1L here a year ago on good ground over shorter distance. Ground is a negative, but only 1lb higher than last win.
12
Horse silk
Generous Guestb,t15
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-5| J: D F O'Regan| T: S J Mahon| OR:  81
25/1
Didn't build on a solid third of 16 here in a handicap hurdle on seasonal debut, suffering heavy defeats on his last two starts. Now a 15-race maiden over hurdles.
13
Horse silk
Miss Mcilroy7
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-4| J: Mr L P Gilligan(7)| T: G T Lynch| OR:  80
12/1
Three heavy defeats were put behind her when when solid fourth of 12, beaten 2¾L in a Sligo handicap hurdle. Could easily go well but trip and size of field may be a problem.
14
Horse silk
Northern Emperorp,t35
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-0| J: Phillip Enright| T: V T O'Brien| OR:  82
20/1
A nine-race maiden on the Flat for former handler, there has been little encouragement in jumps form this year since moving to current trainer, including 9½l defeat last time out.

Forecasts

Eiri Na Casca (4/1), Wee Tiger (6/1), Antimatter (7/1), Spancil Hill (7/1), Kilganer Queen (8/1), Perfect Leader (9/1), Billy De Kid (12/1), Miss Mcilroy (12/1), Cnoc Na Sioga (14/1), Northern Emperor (20/1), Ashjan (20/1), Horsenjockey (25/1), Barney King (25/1), Generous Guest (25/1)

Verdict

The old boy, Barney King, second of 16, beaten 1L here a year ago, will no doubt make the running here, with Kilganger Queen, Wee Tiger and Miss McIlroy following in behind. Ashjan, won a Downpatrick handicap hurdle in June and Kilganger Queen, quick return and tongue-tie still on will suit, should be on the shortlist, but preference is for EIRI NA CASCA, who has track, distance and size of field conditions in his favour.
  1. Eiri Na Casca
  2. Kilganer Queen
  3. Ashjan
