Soft/heavy ground appears to have found him out twice now in handicaps and a sounder surface looks to be needed to show his best. Best run this sphere came on his penultimate run when second at Windsor over the trip and worth looking at here.
Arrested his decline in form last time out at Salisbury taking advantage of a slipping mark but still not totally convincing. Looks quite exposed in handicaps now and may need to ease in grade to regain a winning thread.
Didn't look at all suited by the 7f trip when breaking his maiden at Lingfield last time out and will be better suited by this mile stepping into handicaps for the first time. Mark looks fair enough but his trainer doesn't have a great record with his handicap debutantes.
May well be better on the AW (rated higher on synthetics) and showed why that may be the case last time out at Ascot turning in a moderate effort. No has a bit to prove on turf although is well-handicapped if he can show his form on this surface.
This yard often have an improver on handicap debut and so it proved with this one who got off the mark at Windsor over a mile. Unable to follow-up that win last time off a 4lb higher mark but wasn't disgraced and should go well again of the same mark.
Gelded for his last run he looked to get his season back on track returned to the AW at Wolverhampton where he also won his maiden His form on the AW reads much better than his turf form (yet to beat one home on turf) and probably best watched here.
Twice a winner as a juvenile when with Richard Hannon he's not really sparked for current connections. Showed that a mile was within his range last time out but even with his mark falling and tongue-tie on for the first time others are preferred.
His first handicap start saw him beaten 7L (finished second) but only by one who was thrown in at the weights over 7f. Made a small step forward last time at Bath in a much lower grade over a mile and may just find this grade a little too much.
First-time blinkers on for his handicap debut and a confident ride (travelled well) saw him take a low-grade handicap easily. Now 2lb well-in at the weights under a penalty he takes quite a rise in class as he bids to follow-up.
Forecasts
Abatement (5/2), Rumpole (9/2), Whip Nae Nae (6/1), Slow To Hand (6/1), Working Class (8/1), Fastar (8/1), Kreb's Cycle (12/1), Captain Pugwash (16/1), Weloof (33/1)
Nothing here has outstanding claims and this may be best left to FASTAR who looks to have settled into handicaps well and could have a little more to offer. Slow To Hand and Captain Pugwash both take a step up in grade here and it remains to be seen if they can handle this class while Abatement is well handicapped but may just be a better gelding on the AW. Working Class should do better in handicaps but may need this debut with Rumpole not out of this despite top weight.
- Fastar
- Rumpole
- Slow To Hand
