A fall on her debut over fences meant that she' not been seen again until the summer showing some spark of a stiff mark over hurdles on her penultimate start. Much better over fences last time out she now steps into handicaps with something to build on over fences.

Showed some very consistent form for this yard in six runs so far although he remains 4lb above his last winning mark. Just ran creditably last time (no match for an impressive winner) but should run his race here.

Has won over fences and the victory came off a higher mark at Ludlow when his jumping was better although the race wasn't that strong. Found higher marks beyond him after that and can take a strong hold and will need to settle better in front here.

His overall chase record isn't bet inspiring and he's not straightforward at all and since his win at Plumpton in March (went in snatches) he's run poorly twice. Ride last time was too aggressive but he's still one to treat with caution and be wary of.

Forecasts

Mercian King (11/10), Ivor's Queen (2/1), Flashman (5/1), The Yank (6/1)

Verdict

This could well be a good opportunity for IVOR’S QUEEN to get off the mark after she shaped with some promise on her second start over fences last month. She doesn’t look badly handicapped here based on her hurdles mark and should be able to give weight to this consistent Mercian King who looks to be in the grip of the handicapper. Neither The Yank or Flashman are the easiest to deal with and should really only be concerned in a race for the places here.
  1. Ivor's Queen
  2. Mercian King
  3. The Yank
