Lingfield winner (5f, July 2016) who finished a couple of places behind The Nazca Lines when fourth of six on seasonal reappearance at Redcar in June (5f). Held by Delfie Lane in a small field affair at Brighton latest and clearly holds a chance without looking an obvious winner.
Didn't see a racecourse until early July, but impressed in finishing a head second in a 5f Windsor maiden before picking up a soft race at Leicester a fortnight ago (5f soft). AW and handicap debutant who is a half-brother to the stables useful sprinter Royal Birth and must be feared.
Fairly solid all year and was a close third in a fillies handicap over C&D in May. Has improved further since, beating The Nazca Lines by 2L at Haydock in early July (5lb worse off with that rival tonight).
Beaten 2L by Dundunah at Haydock in early July, but won on his next start at Carlisle a few weeks later (5f good to firm). That form has worked out well with the runner up Intense Romance winning at Ascot since and ought to go close if handing Tapeta (debut).
Both career successes have come over 5f on artificial surfaces (Polytrack), but has experience of Tapeta having finished 1L second to stable switcher Suwaan over C&D in late March. Claims from a similar mark but arguably a fraction below her best on turf since.
Downed a Simcock trained hot-pot when winning a 6f Wolverhampton maiden for Ed McMahon in October 2016. Moved onto this trainer thereafter and frankly poor this calendar year. Worth a go over this shorter trip on pedigree seeking a revival of fortunes.
Gelded and made his stable debut a winning one when too good for Little Miss Daisy over C&D in March, and should again theoretically have that rival's measure on these terms. Arguably trained off slightly on turf since, but to be feared back here from just a 2lb higher mark.
Forecasts
Indian Raj (5/2), Suwaan (5/2), Maazel (4/1), Desperados Destiny (8/1), Dundunah (9/1), The Nazca Lines (12/1), Little Miss Daisy (16/1)
A web of interwoven form-lines despite the relatively small field. Suwaan was revitalised by the switch to Ruth Carr and returns to the scene of his March success defending an unbeaten AW record (1 from 1). The Nazca Lines and Dundunah are closely matched and given their current fine form command respect, but truthfully now hold few secrets from the handicapper. Therefore, whilst he's highly likely to be over-bet and perhaps not reflect any form of value, the unexposed INDIAN RAJ looks the likeliest winner on AW and handicap debut.
- Indian Raj
- Suwaan
- The Nazca Lines
