An eight race maiden, but has posted more than a couple of pleasing efforts. Most notably he was staying on strongly late to get within a neck of Theydon Grey at York in June (1m6f good to firm). That winner has followed up since, so a subsequent 1lb rise is fair, and feasibly didn't get home over 2m latest. AW debut.

From a yard that are struggling for winners this season, but ran well at Ripon in June when 2L second to Theos Lolly (1m4f good). Taken out of his last three planned engagements (including at Carlisle on Monday) and set to line up on the AW for the first time since October 2012 (Wolverhampton - old surface). Tapeta debut.

Routed the opposition in this contest by 9L in 2016, but paid the price accordingly and still 8lb higher now on the AW despite not having threatened to taste success since.

This trainer has yet to find the answer to this former John Gosden trained gelding, but whilst he's falling steadily in the weights, he often doesn't look up for the battle. His recent form over 1m2f (most notably here and at Redcar) strongly suggests he's worth another go over this trip and this jockey booking catches the eye.

Ex Roger Varian inmate (Polytrack placed) who made it third time lucky for this trainer at Thirsk last month, beating Correggio by 2¼L. His odds (80/1) indicated that was a surprise, but less so to connections judged upon a post race interview, so claims of following up from a 4lb higher mark on Tapeta bow.

Flat winner for Roger Varian and hurdles winner for Nicky Henderson, so he's been brought up the correct way. Suffered a very heavy fall for this trainer at Musselburgh in February and he doesn't appear to have recovered from that experience mentally. Tongue tie applied to visor as connections seek to rebuild confidence.

Hit with a 7lb rise for a decisive Redcar success in late May (1m6f good), but showed he can handle this kind of mark when runner up to Breakwater Bay at Pontefract latest (1m4f good). Owner a regular sponsor at this track, so this race has probably been on the radar.

Arrives in good order and beat a subsequent winner (Midnight Warrior) when scoring at Beverley in early July. Solid rather than unspectacular since (runner up in a seller latest) so needs to show more and worryingly is a 13 race AW maiden.

Hamilton winner who has made the frame on three occasions at this track (twice a runner up over 1m2f) and far from disgraced when third to Banff over 2m latest. This trip looks ideal, but whilst he seems certain to run another solid race, this looks a slightly deeper contest.

Forecasts

New Society (9/4), Satish (11/4), Waiting For Richie (13/2), Hayward Field (7/1), Major Rowan (9/1), Highway Robber (10/1), Chant (20/1), Cool Music (28/1), Recognition (100/1)

Verdict

An intriguing contest with a number of these runners seemingly on an upward career trajectory. New Society is relatively unexposed and demonstrated he can handle this kind of mark when runner up at Pontefract last month. He represents trainer James Bethell who has a fair record at this track on Tapeta, and also regular Newcastle race sponsor John Dance. Hayward Field sprung a surprise at Thirsk last month, but shouldn't be underestimated given that he was Polytrack placed when with Roger Varian, whilst David O'Meara will surely find a race for Satish eventually, and this extra yardage might be the solution. However, the vote goes to the top-weighted maiden WAITING FOR RICHIE. His York second to Theydon Grey is rock-solid form, and this galloping 1m4f circuit should be enough of a stamina test. Expect him to be making his appearance late in the contest.
