Come into his own of late with the soft ground being very much to his liking and the win at Beverley on his penultimate outing wasn't unexpected. Looked as though he was going to follow-up that win at Hamilton (under a penalty) last time (travelled well/found little) and not one to trust in a tight finish.

Has just a solitary win to his name and that's not down to lack of ability but more to lack of resolution and that was shown when he was run out of things close home (again)at Beverley last time. His overall record could well hold him back again here.

Yet to win a race although he seemed to take a step back in the right direction last time out when taking fourth over 1m4f on heavy at Chepstow. Remains to be seen if he can back that run up though given his previous exploits.

Most of his form is fairly moderate and his last yard resorted to running him in selling company with his last two starts for his new yard being very modest and below form.

Has shown some ability since he's come to this yard and looked as though he may well be able to win something like this but did get very lit up and free in first-time cheekpieces on his last start. Needs to settle better in the same headgear to take a hand here in what could be a decent test.

Always looked a type who would improve for going into handicaps and so it proved when he won here on his debut in that sphere. He did make very hard work of things though to win last time out although he may know a little more here and his trainer/jockey combination are hard to rule out here.

Ended a losing run that stretched back nearly three years when winning at Doncaster in July off a 2lb lower mark but never looked a banker to build on that run and so it's proved. His last two starts have merely underlined how inconsistent he is although the trip will have proved too far last time out.

The winner of two AW handicaps at the start of the year (one off a higher mark than here) he's never really gone on from those runs back on turf. His mark has slipped down again now but overall he looks as though he might be better back on the AW.

Verdict

It’s always hard to overlook the Dascombe/Kingscote combination here and although PUNKAWALLAH took plenty of driving to win on his handicap debut he left the impression that there was more to come. Indian Chief and Strummer are two that always travel through their races but are likely to flatter to deceive and Shambra for an in-form yard should be in the equation if she handles the ground. Daily Trader has yet to totally convince on turf but can’t be totally written off here in a race where a few are in with a chance.
  1. Punkawallah
  2. Indian Chief
  3. Shambra
