Drop in grade seemed to do the trick at Beverley last time, sticking well to the task once hitting the front to record a victory by the minimum margin. 4lb rise for that is enough, and only effort at Catterick was a poor one, so has new questions to answer today.
Given he wasn't beaten far off a mark of 80 over this C&D last October (and in better grade) he looks nicely treated off 75 today, and it may be he's needed his three runs this year to achieve peak fitness. One of the more interesting ones here, and not discounted.
Was in great form around this time last year but nowhere near as good this time around, which is reflected in his low-looking mark. Track possibly not ideal either and not hard to look elsewhere for the winner.
His second at Wetherby in May stands out like a light among the rest of his recent poor efforts, and he hasn't beate a horse home in either of his last two starts. Can only wait for signs of a resurgence at present.
Winner at Newbury for William Muir in July last year, but hasn't shown enough for his new yard to think he's up to taking a hand in this at present. Track possibly not ideal either, and plenty to prove at present.
In cracking form at present, winning back-to-back handicaps at Wetherby and Thirsk (form of that holding up okay), and given he's already a C&D winner he's no worries on that score either. Seems to handle soft ground too, so plenty of positives, and must be on the shortlist.
Turned in a much better effort on third start this season when second in a claimer here (7f) and the cheekpieces on today should help him concentrate better at the start (can be slowly away). Not out of it if taking another step forward.
Not beaten far on either of his last two starts (just behind Dyllan here in July), likely to once again run his race but may have to settle for the places again, despite another 2lb drop in the weights.
Just the one win in 19 starts and although looks worth a try at 7f based on his staying-on third over shorter at Carlisle last time, questionable whether this track will play to his strengths and others are preferred.
Forecasts
Mango Chutney (2/1), Tadaawol (9/2), Mywayistheonlyway (7/1), Dyllan (15/2), Short Work (8/1), Tadaany (8/1), Hitman (12/1), Like No Other (22/1), Shamaheart (25/1)
Mango Chutney is the progressive one and with conditions likely to be no issue for him again today, looks sure to go close to completing the hat-trick. But a chance is taken on TADAANY bouncing back to form, as he too has conditions to suit and looks the only pace angle in the race. He's drawn in stall 5, which gives him every chance of getting out and bagging the rail, and if allowed too much rope, may he hard to catch. Dyllan may be best of the rest.
- Tadaany
- Mango Chutney
- Dyllan
