Rock Of Gibraltar colt that;s a half brother to three winners (all trained by Mark Johnston, so knows the family well). Will want much further than this in time but yard have a 22% strike rate with their 2-y-o's here and this one has been found a weak-looking event to kick off in.

Some promise on debut when a staying-on fourth at Beverley but didn't build on that at Pontefract last time, although the step back in trip probably to blame. Back up to 7f here and could well hit the frame.

Bred to have some speed and this trip should be fine, but yard 0-16 with their 2-y-o's over the past five seasons, and as such, not hard to look elsewhere for the winner.

Two runs have revealed little and in keeping with his breeding, looks like he needs further already. With a good yard and may improve, but needs to here.

Debut today, some useful winners on the dam's side and this trip should be fine today (will want further). Worth a look in the market as yard have a 19% strike rate with their 2-y-o-'s here over the last five years, and this is not a strong event.

14,000gns purchase related to a few winners, and yard do occasionally pop up with a 2-y-o winner when least expected, so worth a glance in the market, but on balance, others are preferred.

Doesn't make as much appeal as some on breeding, and yard not known for 2-y-o winners, so best watched on debut today.

Had clearly learnt a bit from Kempton debut in early July when a close third at Ffos Las a fortnight ago, and that's just about the best form on offer. Chances of going close if taking another step forward, although will need to start better on this sharp track.

Forecasts

Shrewd Approach (15/8), Amazing Rock (5/2), Three Saints Bay (4/1), Burnieboozle (8/1), Mountain Approach (9/1), Lord Caprio (20/1), Lady Isle (40/1), Cuppacoco (40/1)

Verdict

Not a strong event to kick off with. Shrewd Approach brings a solid third at Ffos Las to the table but the way she stayed on there suggests this slight drop back in trip on a sharper track means she needs to be on her toes at the start (slowly away last time). Preference is for the unraced AMAZING ROCK, who comes from a useful family and is likely to be well forward for his debut. Burnieboozle might be best of the rest.
  1. Amazing Rock
  2. Shrewd Approach
  3. Burnieboozle
