Won a maiden at Chester before running fair races in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and in a handicap at the same course last time out. Potentially more to come but still has a bit to find with the best of these.

Outclassed on his sole attempt at a Group race in the Coventry Stakes (also his only try at 6f until now), but has run well at this sort of level in the past and holds place claims if proving effective over this trip.

Took a step forward from a promising debut run to get off the mark at York last time out. Plenty more improvement needed here but he remains unexposed.

Improved plenty on his second start to win nicely at Haydock (6f, good to firm), but form of that race remains open to question and has something to prove on softer conditions.

Justified short-priced favouritism at Ayr last time having stepped up in trip from a good effort on debut at Beverley. This is tougher but looks to have more to offer if putting in a more professional performance.

Forecasts

Regulator (9/4), Dragons Tail (5/2), Rufus King (3/1), Ulshaw Bridge (7/2), Haddaf (9/2), Prestbury Park (10/1)

Verdict

RUFUS KING was mildly disappointing at Goodwood earlier in the week but raced keenly that day and may not have handled the track as effectively as others; he ran well prior to that behind some very useful types (including Group 2 winner Cardsharp), and is taken to bounce back here. He faces stiff competition from Regulator, who remains unexposed after a maiden win last time out, and Prestbury Park, who could go well if handling some dig in the ground.
  1. Rufus King
  2. Regulator
  3. Prestbury Park
