Hurdles winner last year for Gordon Elliott, made winning start for this up and coming trainer at Brighton, though not as good since at Leicester. Dangerous to overlook back jumping at this level.

Produced a positive display over this C&D in June, not as promising since at Cartmel but must be given fair claims back here in this grade and with yard close to 29% strike rate in preceding fortnight.

Typically likes to front run, finally scoring at the 51st time of asking over 2m at Uttoxeter in May, disappointing in two runs since though, including under more patient tactics last time and hard to be confident about chances now.

String of lacklustre efforts this year have resulted in handicap mark sliding to the tune of 26lb. Hard to envisage where fortunes will turn.

Verdict

MILROW and Dove Mountain look the pair to focus on here, with preference for the former. His trainer is in good form lately and having run in a pair of Class 2 handicaps, this represents a significantly easier task than has been the case lately. He handled the C&D well in June and should be able to take this gilt-edged opportunity. Dove Mountain has won over hurdles before and, with his trainer creating waves already, could go very well back over timber having won recently on the Flat. Astrum has scored in this grade over C&D for previous trainer and rates the most likely of the remainder to get involved.
  1. Milrow
  2. Dove Mountain
  3. Astrum
