It's been a long time between drinks for connections of this gelding, who rattled off a hat-trick to kick-off his career but has not won since the last of those in 2013. Has run well here before, though not many others positives going into this other than a drop in class and not easy to fancy.

Beat an in-form opponent by 6L over C&D last time, for which he has gone up a very fair 6lb. Has been beaten from similar marks before now, but with that win on the board he could be a different proposition in what is a similar contest.

Has won here over fences (2m4f, good) from a much higher mark a couple of years ago, but no longer at that level. Another 1lb drop will help and you can't rule him out from being competitive.

Came good at Sedgefield in March (2m4f, good) from 9lb lower, though held on his next two starts over further than this. Returns after a short break and a 1lb drop, though will need a bit of improvement if he is to add a second win from this mark.

Won here on soft ground (3m) five years ago, though more recent successes have been over 2m1f. Acts on good or softer ground and should be able to do better here today than when he returned here over C&D in May after a year off the track.

It's almost three years since his last success and almost four since he last scored over hurdles and there was a bit of encouragement in his recent 23L defeat (after almost two years off) at Wexford. Still has plenty to prove.

Sole success from 21 starts was over this trip (good) at Sedgefield in April in a first-time tongue strap. That was in novices' company, but she has struggled from similar marks to today's since then and she is likely to find a couple too good.

Recorded the last of his wins in 2014 and has been on the slide since, showing little in the past couple of years. Another 4lb drop won't do any harm, but recent efforts suggest that it still won't be enough to have him winning again yet.

0-29 over hurdles and all of his turf Flat wins have been with cut in the ground, so may find conditions a bit quick here. Has gone up 3lb since his last run at Cartmel, when beaten 18½L. Also 3lb out of the handicap going into this and looks to have place claims at best.

Agricultural28
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-0| J: Ross Chapman(3)| T: Mrs L B Normile| OR:  69
66/1
Sole win was five years ago and has been unable to show anything to latch on to since 2013. 12lb out of the handicap and impossible to recommend him.

Forecasts

Jack The Hat (3/1), Thorpe (10/3), Tekthelot (13/2), Meadowcroft Boy (13/2), Pikarnia (8/1), Border Breaker (10/1), Louloumills (10/1), Ronaldinho (14/1), Uriah Heep (22/1), Agricultural (66/1)

Verdict

Not a race to get heavily involved in from a punting perspective and now that he has a win to his name, THORPE looks worth sticking with in a field where plenty of them are out of form. Meadowcroft Boy could be given a bit more of a squeak now dropped in class, while Pikarnia looks a bigger danger, along with Tekthelot, who could do much better that his most recent visit.
  1. Thorpe
  2. Pikarnia
  3. Tekthelot
