The best of these going into this, having made the frame in three of his four chases and won the other one at Ayr (good to soft) in April. Only just touched off here when a beaten favorite on good ground last time, but the front pair were 8L clear and even with his penalty he is the one to beat.

This trip and good ground suits and he made a reasonable debut at Southwell last time when a 5L second, although he was never able to get in a blow with the winner. Will need to improve on that to win this against a more experienced opponent.

Showed a bit of ability when making the frame over fences in 2015, but his last three starts have been a struggle for one reason or another. Foolish to write off anything sent here by this trainer, but first and foremost he needs to complete here.

Hasn't shown much in four hurdles runs and now makes her chasing debut. Plenty of decent chasing form in her pedigree, so she can hopefully show some improvement now, but very much one for a watching brief today.

Forecasts

Chitu (5/4), Chieftain's Choice (7/4), Rendezvous Peak (3/1), Alys Keys (66/1)

Verdict

Rendezvous Peak would not be the biggest surprise winner saddled by his trainer if he proves good enough here, but it would be some turnaround for him to do so after a break, given what he was producing before it and preference is for the very solid CHITU, who has been consistent in his four runs over fences and proved that he can win one. Chieftain's Choice should be able to improve on his chasing debut too and, having ridden Chitu, Brian Hughes will know better than most how his mount today compares to the likely favourite.
  1. Chitu
  2. Chieftain's Choice
  3. Rendezvous Peak
