Won twice towards the end of last season over this 1m2f trip, including off a 1lb higher mark than today's. Has been competitive for most of the year and versatile ground-wise, so couldn't be ruled out if putting best foot forward.
Has endured an interrupted career over the past couple of seasons but much more encouragement to be gleaned from his latest effort when only 3L adrift of Euginio over 1m2f at Sandown (good to firm). Dropped a further 2lb.
Rattled off a sparkling hat-trick of wins over this trip early last season but shot up in the handicap as a result and it's now seven runs without a win. Finished 13th in the John Smith Cup at York latest and remains 2lb higher than last win.
Without a win since 2014 and is thoroughly exposed. Ran poorly when 10L behind Kapstadt over C&D (good) latest after a decent reappearance on softer ground at Redcar. Potentially well-treated if it all comes together but others more persuasive.
Progressive sort who had won at Nottingham before edging out subsequent winner Getback In Paris in a ding-dong finish at Windsor (1m2f, good to soft). Didn't appear to get home over 1m4f last time so can be forgiven, but is 5lb higher than last win.
Suited by give in the ground, as evidenced by his latest win over 1m2f (soft) at Salisbury last back-end and signs of a return to form in first-time cheekpieces over an inadequate 1m last time. Respected on that but yard is very quiet right now.
Hacked up in a 1m4f Newcastle maiden in October but disappointing on reappearance at York (only turf run). Better effort in first-time blinkers when second at Kempton last time (1m3f) and gives the impression there is more to come. Every chance if change of headgear works.
Won a 7f Lingfield maiden on his debut in December but a shade disappointing in three subsequent AW starts, most recently when beating only one hime in a Listed event in April. Gelded since then, and interesting to see what he serves up over a longer trip on his turf debut.
AW maiden winner last back-end who has shown up well in both starts this season, including when a neck second behind the progressive Intrepidly over 1m2f at Windsor (good) earlier this month. Strong claims in first-time cheekpieces, despite 4lb rise.
Experienced campaigner who pops up every now and again at a lower level, as he did when scoring at Leicester (1m4f, good) last week. A runner-up under a penalty at Yamouth on Wednesday but this is a much bigger ask.
Forecasts
Toulson (10/3), Anythingtoday (4/1), Pacify (4/1), St Malo (11/2), Dark Red (9/1), Awake My Soul (10/1), Ay Ay (16/1), Storm Rock (16/1), Great Hall (20/1), Tyrsal (50/1)
Hugo Palmer won this event 12 months ago with a lightly-raced three-year-old saddles another similar type in ANYTHINGTODAY who beat all bar a progressive sort at Windsor last time. Providing first-time cheekpieces have the desired effect, the gelding can defy a 4lb rise at the chief expense of St Malo who returned to form in first-time headgear at Kempton last time. Toulson, who missed an intended engagement at Newbury last week due to soft ground, looks the pick of the remainder.
