A multiple winner on turf, but now in the twilight of his racing career at the age of twelve. A decisive winner from this mark at Musselburgh in October 2016 (2m good), but has failed to beat a single rival in three starts in 2017.
A 14 race career maiden (Flat and hurdles). Races on the Flat for the first time since August 2015, and makes his AW debut over a more suitable trip, but tough to fancy having finished well behind Beeno over hurdles at Cartmel last month.
Of limited ability and yet to win beyond 1m (Lingfield April 2016). Hasn't appeared good enough (few excuses) in three previous attempts on Tapeta, and his stamina is a major concern now upped to 2m.
Finished a comfortably held third to Whitecliff Park on synthetics debut over C&D in early June, and has also been held back on turf at Nottingham since. Falling to a competitive career low mark, but without a victory since September 2014.
Won on turf over 1m3f at Hamilton a fortnight ago (kept on strongly) and has proved effective at this track in six spins on the AW (1m to 2m). However, he appears stronger over shorter trips 1m2f to 1m4f, so might prove vulnerable late on.
A two time course winner (including over C&D in June 2016). His current basement mark is unlikely to be a barrier to future success at this track, but he has a shade to find with Stanarley Pic on their C&D clash in June.
An infrequent winner (1 from 19), and not beyond 1m3f. However, his trainer is in-form, and he wasn't beaten all that far when fourth to Vercingetorix over this trip at Thirsk earlier in the month. Claimer takes over in the saddle and this basement mark looks exploitable if the first time blinkers have the desired impact.
Started at big prices in three runs in maidens (1m to 1m4f). Bred to stay being a half-sister to Generous Dream and Desktop, but tough to fancy at this stage of her career on handicap debut.
Ex Irish (John Joseph Murphy) and placed on turf on a couple of occasions over 1m4f. Showed little over hurdles until making stable debut at Market Rasen earlier in the month (rated 100) when going down by 6L to stablemate Gold Class. Could well be thrown in off this mark on Flat stable debut and looks the horse to beat in a moderate contest.
Stablemate of La Bacouetteuse. A 15 race career maiden who has shown nothing since returning from an 18 month break in April, and was well beaten over hurdles at Perth (2m4f) earlier in the month. AW debut.
A seven race maiden who in all fairness appears devoid of any ability. Well beaten by Highway Robber at Hamilton last month, and again at Catterick more latterly. Tries 2m for the first time on the Flat.
Forecasts
Banff (8/11), Highway Robber (7/1), London Glory (7/1), Celtic Power (9/1), Byronegetonefree (10/1), Stanarley Pic (20/1), Dubai Celebrity (25/1), Toast Of London (33/1), Dizoard (33/1), La Bacouetteuse (40/1), Python (100/1)
Few of these runners hold any real secrets from the handicapper with the exception of BANFF. He was placed on the Flat in Ireland on a couple of occasions for John Joseph Murphy, but arrived at the yard of Olly Murphy largely out of form. However, he showed that the fire still burns brightly when a 6L runner up to stablemate Gold Class over hurdles at Market Rasen earlier in the month, and racing from a mark of just 47 back on the Flat, he could prove thrown in against largely exposed rivals.
- Banff
- Celtic Power
- Stanarley Pic
