Came back from over a year's absence to score at Worcester latest, always looking in control up the straight and winning with some authority. That wasn't much of a race but hard not to be impressed, and chances of following up under a penalty if handling the likely softer underfoot conditions.

Has won her last two bumpers, firstly at Stratford and then despite hanging left in the closing stages, with a bit in hand at Worcester. Still learning the trade and more to come but a hard task at the weights and needs another step forward on what promises to be slower ground than she's encountered to date.

Yard are 1-5 with their bumper runners here in the past five years, but this one makes only minimal appeal on breeding and may well want further in time.

Rare runner in this sphere for the yard (only one other in the past five seasons) and makes little appeal on breeding, so others preferred.
Relatively cheap purchase, no great stars in the family and yard don't have a great record in bumpers, so others readily preferred today.

Raced quite freely (and a bit green at times) on debut at Stratford but stuck to the task well, and wasn't beaten far in third. Will have learnt plenty from that and should go well for a yard 8-14 in bumpers here over the past five seasons.

Ran a little better than her finishing position suggests at Southwell recently and there may be some more to come, but she did weaken quickly and may need more time. Others preferred.

Forecasts

Drumlynn (13/8), The Black Squirrel (2/1), Spice Girl (3/1), Mayden Massini (15/2), Monty Massini (10/1), Wenceslaus (20/1), Texan Nomad (28/1), Cosmic Blue (50/1)

Verdict

THE BLACK SQUIRREL showed enough on debut at Stratford to think a race like this is well within his compass, and he can take advantage of the bit of weight he gets from Drumlynn and Spice Girl here. Warren Greatrex has a great record in bumpers here and that sways the vote in his favour. Drumlynn may well prove the danger as he looked useful at Worcester and should progress. Spice Girl has done well but it's asking a lot for a four year old filly to give the weight away.
  1. The Black Squirrel
  2. Drumlynn
  3. Spice Girl
