Will find this easier after tackling some tough handicaps on his last couple of starts, but ran well enough at Sandown two starts ago (third, tried to make all) to be competitive here. Would like the ground to continue to dry out.

Much-improved handicapper in 2016, winning five from six, but has found life harder from new mark this year. This a little easier, and as he goes on most ground and this trip ideal, isn't out of a tricky little contest.

Disappointed at Goodwood latest, but the drop back to 6f possibly not ideal, and may be best forgiven. Had been in good form over 7f previous to that and was an easy winner on soft ground here last year (albeit from a much lower mark) so not discounted.

Looked progressive at the end of last year, winning two from two, but that progression has halted a bit and despite a solid effort at Ascot in May, disappointed again latest. Needs to bounce back on ground likely to be plenty soft enough for him.

Caused a 33/1 surprise at Leicester in May when the yard were in sparkling form, but couldn't reproduce that at Carlisle next time out. Track and likely slow ground should suit, and yard back in great form again, so no easy to rule out.

Looked very useful last year but a bit expensive to follow this year, defeats at 2/1 and evens so far. However, hard to knock the form so if handling this likely soft ground, chances getting some weight from the rest.

Forecasts

Khamaary (2/1), Graphite Storm (11/4), Ice Slice (7/2), Glory Awaits (9/1), Black Bess (10/1), Bahamadam (10/1)

Verdict

All of these come with some questions attached to them, but maybe BLACK BESS has less risks attached than most and back on softer ground, looks the one to be with. Bahamadam might be happier on this track than Carlisle and should get this run to suit her come-from-behind style, so might prove the biggest danger. Khamaary gets a useful weight allowance and shouldn't be written off despite some short-priced defeats.
  1. Black Bess
  2. Bahamadam
  3. Khamaary
