Off the mark at the first attempt for this yard under today's rider at Carlisle (good-to-firm) over 1m last time out. Effective over this shorter distance and one for the shortlist despite a 2lb rise in the weights.

Finished a close third over an extended 1m at Wolverhampton on the AW in February but well held over the same C&D when last seen in action earlier this month. Has his regular jockey up once more today.

Victorious over 7f at Salisbury (good-to-soft) last month but beaten twice since over 1m since including when 5L third at Brighton (good-to-firm) last time out. Interesting dropping back in trip.

All five wins so far have come over 6f at Hamilton and well held so far this season including at that track the last twice. More needed if he's to figure here.

Twice finished a well held fourth from three starts over 1m at Yarmouth this season. Beaten 11½L last time out and others have a more obvious chance.

Finished a close fourth over 7f at Catterick (good-to-soft) last time out but losing run stretches back to September 2014 and may find a few too good in this.

Ran well on first two starts for this yard over this trip on the AW at Wolverhampton in January. Disappointing since including on the AW at Kempton last time.

Verdict

DARK CONFIDANT was successful on debut under today's young rider and the partnership can follow up that success by taking this competitive looking novice amateur riders event. Carlovian was recording his first victory when winning over this distance last time out and can claim second in this contest ahead of Intimately who was a winner off a 2lb lower mark over this trip back in May.
  1. Dark Confidant
  2. Carlovian
  3. Intimately
