Yet to get involved in a race either over hurdle or on Flat debut over shorter at this course last time out. Others hold far more convincing claims.

Not a bad horse in bumpers but less impressive since switching to the Flat; makes turf debut on the level here after two runs at Kempton.

Ran well on debut at Lingfield last time out (1m2f, standard), and probably would have finished closer if he had gotten a better start. Suggested he may be capable of winning a maiden of this nature with that performance.

Teofilo gelding who is related to a few winners and should get this trip well on pedigree. Yard having an excellent season with newcomers and he deserves a place on the shortlist on debut.

Lawman colt who is relatively well-related and should have enough stamina from his sire to stay this far despite his dam's other progeny all being sprinters. Other newcomers make more appeal, though.

Pivotal colt who cost 90,000gns as a yearling. Half-brother to top hurdler Nichols Canyon and with plenty more to like about his pedigree and connections, a bold bid is very possible on debut.

A well-beaten third on debut over shorter at this course last time, but looked outpaced in places and generally suggested that this step up in trip should be exactly what he wants.
Sixties Icon colt, first foal of an unraced dam but most of her family stayed this far and the trainer doesn't have the worst record with horses first time out.

Well-beaten in two maidens up to now and after a short break he needs to show something else in order top prove competitive here.

Beaten 13L into fifth on debut at Nottingham last time out (1m2f, soft), and needs to improve markedly from that effort in order to have a say in this.

Beaten 26L into last on debut at Kempton last time out and should prove himself to be comprehensively outclassed here on the basis of that performance.

Finished last of four on debut at Brighton last time out and needs to come on from that in order to be considered even for place purposes.

Lope De Vega colt who cost 160,000gns as a yearling. Half-sister won a German Group 3 and he looks an interesting prospect on this racecourse debut.

Took a big step forward from a disappointing debut to be beaten only narrowly at Nottingham last time out (1m2f, soft). Likely to enjoy the conditions here and looks progressive on the evidence seen so far.

Ran two solid races on the all-weather last year but this is a different proposition now stepping up markedly in trip on her turf debut. May or may not stay this far on pedigree.

Invincible Spirit filly who is a half-sister to Sydney Cup winner Polarisation. Eye-catching pedigree and goes for a top trainer so is of definite interest on paper.

Verdict

Down the line it would be no surprise to see this having worked out as a decent maiden, but with so many unraced and once-raced horses it makes finding the winner more difficult. ADJACENT has waited until now to make his debut which may not be a massively positive sign, but there's a lot to like about his pedigree and the fact that so many Charlie Appleby horses are winning first time out this season shouldn't be ignored in these situations. He is taken to get the better of stablemate Stormy Blues, who was much more impressive last time out compared to his debut, and fellow newcomer Fujaira Prince, a half-brother to multiple Grade 1 winning hurdler Nichols Canyon.
